I have been working on the gas filler hole in the cab the same time as the dash panel. This is definetely tricky because of the double curve in that corner of the cab. :help:

Nice build. I am just out side of Charlotte. I have been gathering parts for my 56 for the last year or so. I hope to get started on it when it worms up some.

Or if i would have sprayed it down with water and let it set a day or two to let it build up a layer of surface rust it would have been ok. POR stands for Paint Over Rust, which is what its designed to do. not POCM on all my other projects i use a black acrylic enamel. havnt had any problems with the last 3 or 4 done that way. |
Re: '55Chevylover's 55stepside build up
My dad used POR 15 to paint his frame over 10 years ago, it was a bead blasted frame so it was porus and gave good adhesion. He brushed it on and its still stickin today. Just dont paint it on anything that sees the sun alot, it fades.

Re: '55Chevylover's 55stepside build up
I've got 2 8.8 ford explorer rear ends, that's not a 8.8. Yes I agree with you that a 98 explorer should of had a 8.8, but that's not what he has.
|
Re: '55Chevylover's 55stepside build up
I take that back... 8.8 has a bolt on rear cover. That is a Ford 9" but it's not out of an Explorer. It looks like it is out of the mid class cars from the 60's-70's. It is a small bearing housing, I can see the stepped tubes and the butt spliced tubing to center section.
Higher horsepower axles have the one size axle tubes, big bearing, and the center section is V-notched over the axle tubes. |

Nice build I enjoyed looking through your thread. Keep the pics coming.
