You put one like that or a different type. Our 68 had on and it ran good. Never actually drove one befor and after install. Would you say the tapered hole kind or the open one is better? That one in pic is about $170 would it be worth that? Heard they help with low end power.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I bought one from Summit that had an aluminum frame and plastic inserts....so you could run it open, split, or ported. It wasn't that expensive either.

YAY how exciting. I will be ordering mine next week. Not the GM one too pricy and dont think they make a duel for my heads. I also found that carb spacer with 3 different incerts for it. May also get that.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I need to get my tail in gear. My drop spindles arrive today. I've got the front crossmember apart...just need to clean it up and paint it, then I can install it in the frame....and then I'll put the motor and trans in...and start building the front end...stitch the trailing arms so I can paint and install those, same with the rear end, etc. etc. etc.

I see how people get dis-interested in their projects if it goes too long. For some folks long term is in the original plan, but it also makes you want to give up as it begins to seem like..."it will never get finished".

I know how you feel. I dont even get to see my engine every day or even every week. Probly has ben 4 weeks sence i last laid eyes on my engine. That is what happened when i tryed my hand at paint work. Now i have lots of primer spots and one side panel that looks like a zebra. I am focusing better now. I hope any way. Should order manifold monday or so and other things.

WOW that does blow. Got jacked on price and product. Dont think i would order from them again. Seems to be a patern to me. That is why i try to get most my stuff from big name companys. Has seemed to work good so far for me. I have goten every thing from summit i beleave for my engine. The flywheel and cam will not come from them and i got jacked on flywheel. The cam will prob come from sd.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Well...that motor is brand new.

For a dirty motor....I use Simple Green. Protect what you don't want to get wet, the pre-wet any plastic areas before applying (SG can stain at 100%), saturate the metal areas with simple green, let set...then hose off with high pressure. Really bad spots may take a 2nd application or even a little scrubbing.

for a carb'd L92/LS3 headed motor that will see strip use but still needs to be able to drive on the street to get there, I think a dual plane(1500-6500rpm) is a better choice then the single plane(3000-7000rpm)...unless your building a motor for the track use only. I don't plan on turning more then 6500-6600rpm anyway.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

The only prob i have with that is my storage unit that houses my engine does not have water. What can i use to get it clean for paint. The motor is not horrable it is just sandy with light grime on some spots.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Get yourself a couple of rolls of the disposable HD shop towels. Dilute the SG to like 50%, spray on...wipe off. Use wire brush as needed.

You could take some water in a gallon milk jug or two...for final rinse?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I will try that. Thanks. What cam are you getting?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

If you want to make it look even more oldschool look at www.mastmotorsports.com. They offer bracket to relocate the coil packs to the rear of the heads and long plug wires. They also offer valve cover that look more like they would belong on a carb engine.
