But as soon as they're done or at least driving reliably I want to sell them too. My fun is in fixing them and maybe showing them once or twice. After that it's std maintenance and polishing which I don't enjoy. I'd rather tear a truck apart and put it back together than polish up the engine bay  :chevy:

Amen! People say thats to much work to just up and to sell it, but I say its to much work to see it get scratched or dented. That would be more heartbreaking for me than to see someone else with a big @ss smile driving away with it.

ready to see some color!

After spraying color I was cleaning my gun. Not sure how but I had apparently splashed thinner on my tailgate. that pissed me off. fixed that and then shot 2 coats of clear, sanded that flat and shot two more coats

http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/DSCF4081.jpg

I then wet sanded for the last time, up to 2500 grit. Got my wife involved

Super nice! That silver has me rethinking my color choice for my own project. Great work!

Are you doing all the painting out in the open right there in your garage?

I'm not sure you will like it, I heard the color is hard to match if it gets scratched.....I am only 4 hours from you....I can come up and take it off your hands and leave you with my primer ride and you can start all over!!!! Honestly, looks pretty darn sweet!

I love the color too, i think it looks better once I sprayed it then it did on test panels. Unfortuantly I did Paint it right there in the garage. I did all my primmer work with the doors open. i shut the doors to do the color and clear, but couldnt see a damn thing it was too dark, so I opened the doors. surprisingly I had very little trash in the primmer, color or clear.

the compressor is Kobalt (lowes) 5.5hp 60gal. 2stage 13.3 scfm@ 90psi. and I used Harbor freight " purple gun" and a knockoff Iwata lph400 gun.

The Name: I named it "Orion's galaxy" since it is a custom mix of House of kolor's Orion silver, and Galaxy Gray it just seamed fitting.

Iv done my own mechnical work myself for years, but body worked always seamed to have some kind of voodoo to it, and nobody I knew would teach me and every painter does it diffrently. so I said screw it and just decided to do it myself. I can say this there is no voodoo involved, just patience, experience, and Technic. I believe anybody can do it. What you put into it is what you get out. I do have a new appreciation for good Body men and painters.

That's good to hear, because I'm in essentially the same boat -- probably going to be doing my own paint in my garage. Again, impressive work! :)

What did you do for power steering hoses? That's something I have to figure out with the LS1 swap in my '72 (someday).

Awesome progress! Glad to see your past the paint portion of your build. As far as painting in your garage goes, I have painted several cars on a dirt floor barn. Yep, you will get some dust in your paint, nothing that won't buff out pretty easy. I only painted one in an actual paint booth, man was that nice! The last one I did I used my buddies portable home made booth, it worked pretty good too, just had trouble with my feet sticking to the plastic on the floor. check it out. LINK HERE

Re: Silver Dollar

Question... while looking through your pictures, I noticed your front brake lines exit on the rear side of your front crossmember... I just disassembled my chassis and I know mine exiting on the front... what gives? I think it makes more sense to exit in the rear... just curious why mine may be different.

Thanks... great build... can't wait to see the final product!!!

Re: Silver Dollar

Have you done anything to correct the engine angle? Like you, I'm using the CPP tubular tranny crossmember and it seems to drop the tranny down way too low. This just doesn't look right, either on mine or on yours.
