Re: "Project S" - My boy Sam's '72 2wd Blazer -The Red Sled
I won't be going up to my dads for another 2 weeks, but he is tinkering on the blazer as well. He took the ashtray to work and blasted it and primed it. He also took some paint remover to the glovebox and then blasted it.
There is quite a few coats of history on there. Even the original Ochre that is shown on the SPID http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps292ac2d3.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps661ab34e.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psde5391e4.jpg Posted via Mobile Device |

Tear down for paint has begun
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps598e5107.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psa07aea37.jpg And... Im getting ready to order material for seats. I was planning on going with a normal black vinyl/houndstooth design, but i saw this button combo on a '69 Camaro at a show yesterday and I am digging it. Its old school and cool. My seat quote is $150/ per seat to sew 'em up. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psba06e782.jpg Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: "Project S" - My boy Sam's '72 2wd Blazer -The Red Sled
Paint will (or at least "should") be sprayed this weekend. I've been digging parts out of the loft in the garage and getting them loaded up.
I've also got a little surprise in store as far as a door logo. Since this isnt the official restoration (its just a coat of paint to buy me a couple years to enjoy it) I think it is going to get a matte finish and a door logo. It'll have a rat rod theme. I sent the mock up design to the sign shop this morning. If it comes out looking pretty cool, we'll go with it. |
Re: "Project S" - My boy Sam's '72 2wd Blazer -The Red Sled
Any hints on the matte color you will be going with?? sneak peak of door logo???

Looks like fun Jeff. Wish I was there and mine was done so we could cruise together. That would really get some attention.

Re: "Project S" - My boy Sam's '72 2wd Blazer -The Red Sled
And, since I am impatient and wanted to drive it home today... (plus we only had the shop for the weekend)
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psddcb54b1.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psc533ca8e.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps768ff088.jpg Sam was outside when we came rolling up to the house. As I rolled to a stop, he walked out in the street (all smiles) and gave me a high-5. Pretty cool dad moment. He didn't even know we had painted it until we rolled up. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psb58fccc4.jpg Sam and my dad... http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps7bdedb07.jpg NOW... for the part some of you may not agree with. So, we had a perfectly good base coat paint job. Not a single run in the paint (I was even surprised) I decided to faux-tina it. So, after letting it cure all afternoon, I went to work highlighting the areas I wanted lighter. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps3a39739d.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psd6591d66.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psef779b57.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps556d1c6c.jpg |

Re: "Project S" - My boy Sam's '72 2wd Blazer -The Red Sled
OK... more pics.
I got the door logo installed. It came out pretty decent. To understand what it is all about, you've got to understand where I came from. When I was growing up, my dad was purchasing manager for Westmoreland Coal Company. The same company that his dad and his grandpa worked for. And Chevy Blazers were the company vehicles that graced our driveways. And when the Blazers service to the company was done, my dad would typically buy the old (well kept) one for my mom to drive. SO, we had about every Blazer color produced up through the early 80's. When I was around 8 or 9 years old (1985). My dads company closed operations in southern WV sending over 500 employees to the unemployment line. (which was a huge blow to a SMALL town) Needless to say, hard times ensued and that was the last full size Blazers we owned. In fact, those times are what shaped my childhood and I had to watch my dad sacrifice a couple classic cars. Which has also inspired my book "The Ones That Got Away" http://www.theygotaway.com So, anyway... since this Blazer is important to me and my dad. I decided to logo it as a tribute to the Mine Safety Team he was a part of when I was growing up... http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps0a0e0700.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psed68f911.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps85d043fd.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psf40abb73.jpg the pictures don't bring out the faux-tina very well. You can sorta see it on this one... http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...pse3dacf89.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps3d5b1b98.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps8cd2478f.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psd7d40c5b.jpg Interior starting to come together... http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps35aa5dde.jpg Sam even scored his first trophy at the show we went to this weekend. :metal: http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psf0d301ae.jpg |

Re: "Project S" - My boy Sam's '72 2wd Blazer -The Red Sled
Blazer looks great, would love to hear what steps you used to do the faux-tina and what color you used. I think you nailed it, some people go overboard when they do it and it ends up looking really fake. Did you just prime and paint a base coat like any normal paint job but without clearing it and then strategically sand it in spots.

Re: "Project S" - My boy Sam's '72 2wd Blazer -The Red Sled
Alright... I'm back. I guess I've been off the grid since I sold the Burb. Life goes on. First off... I don't wanna hear "couldn't ya just leave well enough alone?". Because I've alread said that to myself.... A few times.
So, my dads been pressing me to swap the clip ( he wants my 72 clip for his rusty 71). So, here's some pics. He went ahead and started it since I was up that way last. I am already regretting starting this project. I should have just left it as/is for a while. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps7f9867fd.jpg Stripping... http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps3a68be58.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps85f507a3.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...pse67c1016.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psc17a2a3f.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps5213bd29.jpg Posted via Mobile Device |
