I can't believe how awesome this thing is! Just wondering though, why did you go with a chassis with a 350 as opposed to a diesel for a tow rig?

Easy answer...cost. The pay back was not there. I only paid 4100 for the 2003 gmc with only 72k miles on it.....

It had a four cylinder turbo diesel and top speed was 72 on level road. You mentioned in a previous post that you were getting 9 towing and 13 unloaded, which is about what my son gets with a late model Ford diesel dually. My point is, I don't think you would ever achieve payback if you swapped to a diesel engine, either a 4,6, or V8, considering the cost to do it and the higher cost of diesel fuel.

you nailed it about the diesel I am very happy with the gas mileage.

Had Big Bertha out in the sun today. there is an old mill behind where I have her right now. Thought it was a good place for a photo.

I'll bet you get the looks :jdp:

It is too bad you weren't a GM designer back in the day. I'll bet you could have sold a lot of those..

Fastest build I've ever seen! Started on 12-21-2012 and one month later you're finished and taking location shots. Man you're fast! Your truck looks fantastic. Great work!;)

Really enjoyed seeing this monster in person at the show this weekend. It turned out absolutely gorgeous! Talk a out a hard truck to photograph.. there were people swarming around it!

I loved hearing the comments people were saying their family/friends.. "wow thats a big truck" "wtf would you need something that big for" and my favorite " my grand pappy had one like this back in the day" I really wanted to turn around and say yeah not even close buddy.

The show was something else....I heard all the comments you mentioned and many more. She got an " outstanding in class" award. A radio DJ stopped by Friday night and talked to me for about an hour. Saturday morning he was back with some friends. He was on the air Saturday afternoon and talked about it. Some people came up to me and said they heard him say stuff like " craftsmanship you would find in a benz or other high end car" and "you have to get to the show and see it" Probably 10 people came up to me and said they heard about it on the radio and just had to come see it. 98layinframe, was I there when you stopped by? I received three 6 figure offers and if my wife would of been there Big Bertha would be gone......but I can't sell her. I had a great time and was very proud of the attention she received.

No grin just thoughts of "Can I get another done in time for camping season" were running through my head. Wife said scew that and buy a Kodiak to pull the camper.

without a doubt, the best build thread I've ever seen. I would love to have something like this to take on family holidays. I love the ingenuity you used to mate the cabs and then mix 2 different bed styles together to make 1. VERY impressed. I'd love to see a walk around video of this thing running
