Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Captain Fab,
One more question... Hopefully. I mounted up the booster (91 chevy truck) and went to mate the master cylinder from the 1970 buick estate wagon and I noticed the push rod from the brake booster to the mater cylinder seemed short? Did I get the wrong master cylinder or do I need to modify the push rod on the brake booster? By the way, the bracket is excellent, quality craftsmanship all the way around! Thanks, Matt |
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Well, I have not actually bought one of the '70 Buick masters yet, I have just been going on what another member said is the correct application. That master cylinder is supposed to have the shallow bore in the piston and work with a drum/drum brake system. So you are saying that it has the deep bore in the back of the piston? Let me see if I can get one of those master cylinders tomorrow, and see what it looks like. Worst case, you would need a longer intermediate pushrod.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Got my booster, master cylinder and lines installed this weekend.
91 Chevy truck booster 70 Buick Estate wagon master cylinder New intermediate push rod between booster and master cylinder New adapter between brake pedal and booster. Thanks for the great adapter, it made the swap very easy! http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/q...C879947A30.jpg |
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Looks good Matt
I finally got around to getting a Buick Estate wagon master cylinder. The one I got has the shallow bore in the back of the piston, which should work with most boosters made after '70-'71. Did you find a source for brand new intermediate pushrods, or did you find a used one? I remember seeing them somewhere, but now I can't find them.....new that is. Have you had a chance to drive your truck with power brakes yet? |

Hello captainfab
I read trough your infos and am ready to order your brackets. 64 k10 Suburban, upgrade to 81 Suburban front and rear axle (front springs as well) so I would need your Power steering plates set and the booster bracket ( 82 GMC Hydrobooster) eddy |

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
This looks like a cleaner mounting setup than my stock power "sideways" bracket.
I was going to use a universal 8" dual diaphragm booster and dual drum/drum master (which i see will work with your bracket too if i elongate 2 holes) on my stock bracket, but i like this better, and someone could use my stock power brake parts. Is there any issue putting this on a truck that was power brakes already? Also, for those that don't know, grainger carries threaded rod in stronger alloys than the grade 2 hardware store garbage, and in fine thread, or LH thread too. You could just be a coupler nut and a heim joint and some rod, then remove your old pushrod entirely, no cutting and welding, other than cutting the rod to length. |
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
There should not be an issue with installing this booster bracket on your truck. The factory power brakes with the wedge, had one extra hole in the firewall, which my booster bracket will cover.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Do you have a list of which boosters/ master cylinders fit?

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
There are a few listed in post #1, but here is a little list.
'67-'70 pickups, Suburbans, Blazers '70-'74 Impala, Caprice '80's G body Vans (full sized) Early Astro/Safari vans with the vacuum booster '82-'02 S10/S15 pickups and Blazers '88-'98 full sized pickups '92-'98 Suburbans, Blazers There may be some other applications, and/or years, but these are the ones I have been able to verify. Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
If you use a 88-98 booster is there a non plastic master cylinder that will bolt up?

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
i will take one...
|
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Yes. You can use a '73 and up master cylinder that is for the type of braking system that you have. IE: disc/drum or disc/disc.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
what booster/master cylinder was used on oldies1938 in the pics above?
|
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
That's just one of the aftermarket universal brake booster and master cylinder. The master cylinder looks to be one of the typical Corvette style masters.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Yes that is correct. Pretty much all the GM brake masters and boosters from '73 and up will interchange.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
how about the corvette style master cylinders and boosters do they fit your bracket
|
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
I have not been able to verify the fitment of the Corvette boosters with my bracket. I have heard that they have the correct stud pattern.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
I want to run a 78 front crossmember with stock rear drums. Is there a specific master cylinder/booster I need?
Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Just run the '78 master cylinder and proportioning valve with which ever booster you want. The booster just has to be for a master cylinder with the shallow bore in the back of the piston. To be safe that would be '73 and up. So basically any of the boosters that are compatable with my booster bracket except for the '67-'70 booster.
