I had to make an executive decision today. Either I could wait for the engine builder to find me another 66 Corvette block or keep mine and let him weld the small crack. After a month of looking for a good block I decided to let him weld it. He should be picking up my engine in the next couple of days and have it back to me soon........hopefully.

I hope it works out for you bro! You are taking this way better than I would. But I guess there's only so much you can do. Hope he gets it done soon for you.

Hey man, sorry to hear about all the engine trouble. So what was the deal? Was the crack something you and the builder missed? Sorry if you already said. Where is the crack? what is the plan for welding? some kind of silicon bronze tig, braze or standard arc? Cast welding can be a pain at times. Good Luck!

Cool seeing your truck on the Mar-K website.

It'll work out, and trust that I have already thought about going to court over this. He is good, just super slow.

It was a hairline crack just above the timing chain cover. I don't think he magnafluxed the block as he said, then again it is in an odd place. As for welding it is up to him. He told me that it isn't very hard, just heat it to above 1200degrees and weld it, so that is all the specs he gave me.
I was happy to see my "unfinished" truck on a website, thought that was pretty cool too!

Went by the engine shop Saturday, when they are closed, but he was there. I dropped the engine off with him and he was PISSED!!! Simply because when they opened the gate two other guys came in while we were unloading my engine. He actually had the nerve to chew my a$$ for it!!!! I told him that if I had not dropped off the engine it would have never gotten to his shop. All he could say is "That's not true" , yet I have waited for 2 months for him. I will give him 30 days to complete the fix, after 30 days I will pick up my engine and take him to court. What a turd.

ahhh man, thats not right at all. I probably would have just picked up the engine and took him to court right then since he cant seem to be civil about it. You do have alot more patience.

Hang in there. You know by now Crap happens that's out of your control. The court will suck and take time. You may have no choice on that one. I'm interested to see how the weld turns out. If you get time take some pics of the repair. Magnaflux would have shown the crack for sure if he looked everywhere. I'm not sure I have ever heard of one cracking there. Good luck!

Well you handled that well. What a BOZO! Are you going to stop by often and make sure he is working on it? Maybe you need to remind him how important a customer is to a business.

I guess I have to. If I go nuts then he may just not want to fix it at all. He has me cornered.

It shouldn't take long once he starts, maybe a couple of hours if he doesn't have to tear the engine down. Wish I knew what he was gonna do to it.

Court is next. He has made me wait for almost 15 months total for the build and now repair.

I think it was in a wreck at one point and the water pump was pushed into the block. It's possible. But magnafluxing the block should have showed it......so he didn't magnaflux it.

I can't babysit him anymore. He needs to handle his business and fix it. I am giving him 30 day of un-interupted time, after that I'll just go by, pick it up (with or without repair) and take him to court. Meanwhile I will have the block fixed by another shop.

Sounds like a good plan. Hopefully it doesn't come to that and he gets it right in the next week or so...

I hope so. It would be cool to make it out for this seasons shows. Just don't see it happening.

Yeah I dont blaim you but the sad part about court is it takes a while most the time. and I know you want your truck finished so I hope the best and this guy actually gets off his rear and fixes it correctly for you.

Small claims court takes about a month. They set the date and both parties must show or a warrant is issued if I am not mistaken. No lawyers are needed as a mediator is assigned to the case. The only issue is getting restitution from the other party, sometimes that's a pain. But looking at this objectively it will all be over soon and I will have my truck back in running order.

Thanks Kevin, I did see that one but it is a large journal because it is newer than a 66. Mine is a small journal. I have decided to have it repaired so my search for a block is over.

Well, enough complaining. Gotta move on with this project. Found a really good deal on Craigslist. Got a 1969 sway bar and all the brackets, with new bushings and already powdercoated for $60. The larger brackets are custom made for lowered trucks. Thought that was a pretty good score.:metal: I will have something to do on Memorial Day!

Nice score.

You might want to wait until the engine is back in the truck before you install it just in case the extra weight moves things out of alignment from where it will be now without the engine. Just a thought.
