I have enjoyed the detail in your build, but I also like the continued posts where you have used it. Especially to travel. Love the pics from the power tour. I enjoy old cars even though I might not want to own some of them. Love the factory five daytona also. Thanks for posting.

Eventually we found our way into the event. Our main objective was to look at the sponsor stuff and vendors. The day before most of it was gone or getting put away by the time we got to it and there was plenty of awesomeness to see there. This stude was outstanding and one of my favorites. Unfortunately I had only blurry shots of the front of it. All the chrome bits were a copper plate instead and it looked great.

It only lasts til September. After that the fields are drying out and turning brown, then harvest and back to bare dirt again. October brings the turning of the leaves and the shift to short and gray days. It's just a few months away. A dozen weeks. Doesn't seem fair, but does no good to complain. Another great road trip. More great days to remember spent with my kids and friends. Another reminder of why I love my truck and why I built it the way I did. http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps6e7495a2.jpg 1594 miles driven, about 117 gallons of gas used, averaged 13.6 mpg. Can't complain too much about that considering how many miles we ran at 70 mph plus and all the time sitting in traffic, etc. The best tank was when we were rolling through Iowa the 1st day. All 2 lane black top at about 60 mph and I got almost 18 mpg. A few items were added to the list for maintenance and repairs during the trip for me to take care of over the winter. Need to fix my blinker switch, which is cracked, left tail light is wonky, tach is jittery, horn doesn't work, radiator, add coolant overflow bottle and maybe do a rear shock relocation (but that's not really required). I hope you enjoyed the highlights of my trip. I'm hoping it motivates others to get out and drive their trucks. Anywhere. Anytime. With people special to you sharing the cab and waiting for you at the end (or along the way) of your adventure. I know I can't wait til the next one. |

Great trip! I guess I haven't kept up with this thread over the years. It is awesome to see a thread where we get to see the project not only finished but the trips it is taken on. So many build threads fizzle out and the project vehicle is never completed or once it is completed there is no more to the story. Great thread. Thanks for sharing your trips with us as well.

I had a list of things that I found during the road trips that needed to be improved. The #1 item was the radiator. Its works fine unless I'm sitting in traffic for an hour, so its not something I knew was an issue until last years power tour. It was a used 4 core radiator when I installed it. I've been researching the options and settled on this one...
http://www.speedcooling.com/1967-197...r/prod_38.html There are a few members here that have used them without problems. Its supposed to be a direct fit and looks like it really should be. All welded aluminum construction at a price only slightly higher than the plastic tank/aluminum core radiators. Fit was a big concern for me since I custom built my fan shroud to fit the stock radiator. I'll know soon enough if it will work. I think I'm going to update my electric fan control also. Did my taxes last night and got a good return, and I found out this morning I'll get a bonus from work also, so I get to invest a little in my truck. There are a few other things I'll be fixing later this spring too, but nothing major. Unless I find a sweet deal on some wheels and tires I like. |
