Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Your truck is one of my favorites. Glad to see it's still around. At least for now.

Back at it. My Daughter is getting married in a couple weeks and wants pictures with Henry.
First time out of the garage in quite awhile. Short test drive and a bath. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...GMMKgJR-XL.jpg |

Good for her (and you). I saw some recent activity on IG. I wondered what was the motivation behind it. Love seeing it.
Keep at it. Marc |

Our youngest, Colton, has taken a real interest in anything mechanical. He has been by my side helping me get him back on the road. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...cgD3pXW-X2.jpg I had a cheap thermostat housing and it had started to corrode pretty bad. That was the reason for the loss of coolant years back. Replacing it turned into a bit of an adventure. 2 broken bolts. I was able to get the first one out with an E-Z out. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...b9tsKMR-X2.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...nqr3QJm-X2.jpg The second one fought until the end. Broken E-Z outs, busted knuckles, etc. Finally had to break out the welder. Probably should have done that from the start but I had never done it before. Went pretty well after that. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...jHnBsck-X2.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...BCPrKmW-X2.jpg |

What is the consensus on rebuilding gauges?
None of mine work, and I am trying to figure out rebuilding them, or just replace them. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...Nsd2FrZ-XL.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...fc4VD9J-XL.jpg |
Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
I would follow my same rules on rebuilding carbs. By rebuilding, I mean grab a new one out of the box and bolt it on..

Busy weekend for Henry. Got to enjoy a couple hundred miles of driving him in the past week or so, which has been a blast.
He was the center of attention all weekend, which is awesome. So many compliments and conversations. https://photos.smugmug.com/Family/20...MG_3133-XL.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Family/20...MG_3134-X2.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Family/20...MG_6525-X2.jpg I have been searching for motivation to get this project completed and have him become a daily. This really lit the match. https://photos.smugmug.com/Family/20...MG_6693-X3.jpg |
Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Its funny how just a little seat time and get you motived again. having that for a daily would be perfect. Glad you got a chance to share Henry with people.
He deserves to be out on the roads more than a place to store random garage "stuff". Marc |
Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Yes, more road time. Do it for your self and your family, but also for the pleasure of those who see you ride by and smile.

as for the gauges, my thought is let the pros do this one. By new/ reman and just bolt them in.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
that truck has such an awesome look with mostly patina, but enough new/custom that a clean set of new gauges should look right at home.
