Plan is to build a clean work truck. It's a 98 w/ 454/4l80e.

I don't have a jack that will lift the back to figure the gear ratio out, but does anyone know how to find (guestimate) gear ratio off of speed, RPM and tire size?
With the factory 225/75r16 at 90km/h the truck is running down the road at near 4000RPM. This seems high to me, and it's going into OD.

Something is definitely wrong with that. Shouldn't see more than about 2500 RPMs in overdrive at highway speeds. 4k at 55 mph is like second gear!

Let us know what you find...

My set up below runs under 2000 rpms at 70 mph or 112 kph

Nice clean looking ride. I don't think I have seen a utility box that clean and undented before on one of these year trucks.

I dig the utility body. I work my trucks but I don't beat on them. I work alone now, but when I had help they were taught how to respect a truck by me day-1

Here's my hard workin' Suburban. Picked up these free cinder blocks yesterday from over the mountain. The ole 'Burb didn't skip a beat. Temperature barely climbed (95* day) running up the steep and windy western slope in second gear @40/45 mph... same as the little car in front and the one behind that wasn't up my tail. No problem winding down the Eastern either with it's hydroboost brakes
BTW, these are old block, not the lay-light style uses in modern times. Thick with flat ends. Not a huge load, about 100 6" block

See the hot air balloon in the one picture? Photo bomb!

Here's a 1992 C2500 I used to have. I bought it for its 454 and 4L80 to swap into my 81, but that never happened. Instead I put on an obnoxious exhaust and then just drove it around town. I sold it a month or so ago. As fun as it was, I really didn't have any need for four trucks for one person.

Here's a youtube link to its exhaust. Needlessly loud. I wanted to take it to the drag strip and run some 20 second 1/4 miles with it, but it just never happened. I think it would have been a real crowd pleaser.

And my 1992 C1500. It was completely stock when I got it last year. Since then I've lowered it 2/4, and put Bassett wheels on it. The tires were fairly new when I got it and I've always liked the NASCAR style Bassett wheels since I saw them on a Charger in Hot Rod Magazine back in the 90s, so I took the opportunity to buy a set. I still haven't nailed down what I'm going to do with this truck yet. I drive it quite a bit since everything works.

I like the '92s. There may have been some improvements, such as Vortec 5.7, but I'd rather have TBI on one of those. It seems I'm a minority, but I think the '92-'94 interiors are the best. I love the dash over the '95-up, door panels, seats, console, and instruments better than prior or later.

This thread is 9 years old and I probably posted the '92 K3500 SLE SRW 6.5TD/NV4500 I ordered in Woodland Green from the fleet paint program. Probably a one of one all in all. Here it is with 15 years of work under it's belt

1993 GMC C2500LD. Converted to 5 lug. 700R4 instead of the 4L60E. I made the tire carrier. Deleted the prone to leaking engine oil cooler.

We are dragging home this 94 Blazer (4x4) on Friday for my soon to be 16 yr old son. Needs a fuel pump. Bought it cheap. We plan to get it mechanically sound then work on making it look cool.

Let the fun begin

Here's pics of my 96 Z71 that I recently purchased. PO removed everything off of it, including the bed, before having it painted, and replaced it all with new stuff. It has 235K miles but never off road and seldom had anything in the bed. The transmission was recently rebuilt but the engine hasn't been worked on. I was specifically looking for a single cab, short bed truck so it would fit in my garage easily. BTW, These pics are from the sale ad, the things in the background are not mine.
