Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
It is stalled out right now. I have been busy with work and some other projects lately.
I hope to get back at in the next couple weeks. https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...78770770_n.jpg |

I am sure it will be the most used ride......except during those hot summer months when the top comes off the Jeep!!
I cannot wait!! |

Despite water pump issues, we are still making forward progress.
http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8314-L.jpg Time to install the new Sid's lowered 1/2 ton axle. Height reference picture!! http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8349-L.jpg 15 minutes and a grinder with a skinny wheel and the stock 3/4 ton axle was out. http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8351-L.jpg The ultimate goal is a 5"-6" drop. The axle is 4" drop, so the remaining 2" of drop will come from tires and removing some leaves from the spring pack. To start I removed 2 from the bottom of the stack. The spring retainer bolt came out easy, but I replaced it anyway. http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8354-L.jpg Today I need to round up a puller for the steering arm and start installing the new stuff!! http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8356-L.jpg http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8345-L.jpg http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8343-L.jpg |

It looks from this photo like you pulled the smallest leaf and then the 3rd smallest leaf, is that correct? Any plans to put Teflon between the leaves to smooth out the ride? This once was a common upgrade that I never seem to see anymore on our trucks. I THINK its because everyone's into IFS. I'm planning to try that when I pull my spring packs apart for cleaning/painting. |

I though briefly about the teflon.......but then kind of forgot all about it. |
Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Great work Coach,
It look fantastic I haven't heard of the Teflon idea before. What product would you use to coat the springs? (I'm pretty sure it's not Teflon tape. Ha ha) |

I made a couple gaskets and did a multiple layer of Honda Bond and 2 gaskets to try and take up the dish on the pump. It sealed it up better.....it now only leaks when it runs. :waah: It leaks so little it evaporates off the block now at idle. I am just stepping away from cooling system issues for a bit.......Frustrated. |

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Not much progress.
I got the axle bolted up, along with my disc brake bracket bolted up on the passenger side and that is it. http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8366-L.jpg http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8365-L.jpg http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8374-L.jpg Running to the junk yard shortly to ditch my old stuff and hopefully find some temp 15", 5 on 4-3/4" rims to use. |
Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Little more progress tonight.
I had to change out the races in the hubs. They stockers came out easy with a punch and hammer. I hit the hubs with a torch and left the new races in the freezer for a couple hours. Went together perfect!! http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8437-M.jpg Next came packing bearings and assembly!! http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8438-M.jpg http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8439-M.jpg I could not install the nut and cotter pin. I need to install a couple thick washers so the hole in the spindle aligns with the nut. Money shot......Henry at ride height with 28" wheels!! http://kustomcreations.smugmug.com/O...DSC_8446-L.jpg |
Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Looks great!
Those discs really look slick. So you've gotten SID's dropped axle for the front, are you going to do anything to the back? |

Looking good! I'm liking Henry's patina.

Cool old truck. I was never a fan of those pre-55ish years but I really like yours. That CLR clean up is great.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver
Seeing the corn supply over the visor brought back memories of a 1950 pick-up I had. When I pulled the headliner down, there was a mouse nest that was 8"s wide and stretched from one side to the other. Must have been a multi family dwelling. Your truck looks great, keeping an eye on the progress.
