Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build
Got the fuel cell and coolant and oil sensor adapters in the mail today. Should have the rest of the fuel system Monday. On summit it said the cell has -6 fittings on it. I looked at them today and they look to be -8. Now I have to get some reducers.

I got 90% of my fuel system in today. Got pump, lines, regulator, fittings, spark plug wires. After reviewing my box i remembered i need a few more parts. I needed a plug and two o-ring to an fittings. And -8 to -6 adapters for the fuel tank fittings. I hope to have it all this weekend. Sat i may install everything but sunday i have to go help buddys drop a motor in a vette. Not looking forward to that.

looks like you have a set of manifolds on the motor already...do you still need my old ones?

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build
OK. If I could get them part of the way there to say Greenville some weekend day.....would that work?
Mine's driving....just have a vibration I can't find keeping the mileage/speed down. |
Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build
I can meet you there sat when ever. Sunday I have to put the motor I sold out of the 85 into a vette. If that will work.

When it gets closer to the weekend... we can work it out then.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build
Just to make sure on my fuel set up the fuel should come from pump threw the rails then to the regulator and return to the tank from the reg correct?

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build
I have a holley regulator and they say to go from the pump into one rail, then out of that rail into the other rail then into the regulator, then out of the regulator back to the tank...
But aeromotive says to come out of fuel pump into y block, then into both rails, then out of both rails into regulator then back to the tank... But my regulator has a 1-10an inlet and 1-10an outlet which will be plugged. and 1-8an return... I think either way will be fine... |
Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build
Interesting.....as compared to the Vette filter/regulator that goes between tank and fuel rails, dumping the fuel back into the tank from there...regulating the pressure before entering the rails.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build
The brown and the white trucks both showed up at my house today. I got what i think is the rest of my fuel system in and my flywheel and bolts and crank bushing deal. I am gonna have a pretty good relationship with the fedex folks soon. The ups driver and i already know each other well. He goes to my work and drops packeges everyday. He is one busy sob. He shows up at my work at 930am or so and does not get to my house tell as late as 9pm sometimes.

I got the fuel tank set in its semi-final possition. I had a old bed frame laying around so i cut it up and made a few cell mounts with it. I have two L shaped metal crossmembers bolted to gether to make a C and Notched the ends to sit on top of the frame. It is not a high doller set up but is seems like it will hold the tank well. Just need to pick up a new rear crossmember from porterbuilt and get some bolts and it will be final. It is close enough to run the fuel lines and stuff. I will paint it and the cell straps befor it is final. The tank sits with a 2 degree slope to the rear sump. I assume that is plenty. May be less when bolted down.

I got most of my fuel system installed today. Tank is in, filters are in, pump is in, regulator is in, fuel injector o-rings, 3/4 or my return line. I need 2 more 90 degree fittings and a few more feet of hose. Pretty happy with it so far. I didnt even stab myself.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build
Coming along! That's how I built mine....all s.s.flex line.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build
It is sure expensive but I love the look. I think i may just buy about 500 feet of it next time. I alway run out befor i am done. I used about 25 feet today and need 10 more. That is what i used on my burb too for the supply side. I used the factory metal line for the return side cause i am using the stock tank.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build
I once again put a order in for the last of my fuel system. I sure hope this is it. Also my maf exstension harness came in and was too short. I told them i needed 2 feet and they send 1 foot. They will be sending the correct one tomorrow for free and i get to keep this one.

I can say this with confidence this time. ALL of my fuel system came in today. My rollover valve, 2 90 degree fittings and 10 more feet of hose. Got it all installed and I am ready for the wiring portion of the swap. Started removing all the wires i wont need anymore from the trucks under hood harness. Also half ass got a idea of where everything will be going. I looked over the connections i need to make for the motor harness and it is way better then the harness in my burb. I have desided to not run the motor then take it out. I am just going to wire everything up and then pull the motor to clean the engine bay and paint the motor. I cant wait. I almost have everything i need other then time and a monkey to do the work for me.

Not a hole lot going on. Going to pull the motor next weekend and clean it and the engine bay up. Maybe even put it back in. But this weekend I removed the valve covers and painted them.

A small bit of progress. I installed the freshly painted valvecovers today. I also trimmed the starter wires and put new ends on them. Just need to shorten the alt wire and put a new end on it and the truck side will be done. I plan on pulling the motor this weekend and getting it ready. Not a hole lot more i need to do now with the motor in.
