Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

I've got a good list of parts going at work, now I need to get on the ball and start finding price deals. I'm going to make my own mounts, so that saves a little. I budgeted having Jesse at Wait4me do the harness, but I may do that too. That would save about $300. I'll probably do my own exhaust again. I was going to get a used tranny from C.A.R., but I talked to a buddy of mine today and he's going to build me a tranny for the same price, with a 3 year/70,000 mile warranty. Plus I'm noting little things too as the pop in my head, like hose, hose clamps, fluids, etc.

I'll get my list updated and post it here in the next few days.

I don't think it's right that you guys are just rubbing it in like that!

Bob I think you should build another dash like that for Fred. :) It should be easier this time around because you have done it before!

The new bezel looks awesome. When I get to the interior I may have to give Cheyenne a call, and run over there and pick one up.

Hehehhee :mm:

Custom dash for Fred??!!!! Maybe waaaaaaay down the road, but I promised myself I wouldn't get carried away with this one.

The dash thingy is a pretty good deal for the price. As long as the plastic is in good shape, this makes it look new again.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

thanks Bob!

i was just thinking if we run duel tanks w/ the return line from the vette filter does the return go back through the switching valve and then back to which ever tank were on?

glock35ipsc 07-24-2009 01:57 PM

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Yes, I believe that from the valve it then returns to the particular tank that is selected.

Bob, on your list you mention spark plugs... go w/ the stock ac delco plugs. last summer we tested the ngk's and a number of others and the ac's pulled more h.p. on back to back dyno pulls in the goat's ls2. also the exhaust... (flows sound awesome and its what im going to run in the truck) but on the ls2 actually lost h.p. compared to magnaflo, slp, ect. and yes i know theres lots of variables but everything that could be controlled was. there is a few locked threads over on ls2gto.com about this but i just thought i'd mention it now rather than later. knowledge is power! Dennis

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

I hear ya! ACDelco has always had my back! I only put them on my list because I want all the critical stuff like that to be new, so I'm not chasing around weird demons if there are issues.

I'm with you on the exhaust too. Flows are what I'll be using too, I just flat-out like the sound. In my case, and for Fred's use for the next couple of years, a few lost ponies won't matter.

Again Glock, you are the man. I can't wait to see your 5.3l install thread.

Inspirational :)

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

I have always liked Flows also, but I used Zoomer's exhaust on my CTS-V. It is hands down the best sounding exhaust I have ever had on a car. The Cadillacs use 2.5" duals with a big resonator right behind the trans, and two large mufflers right at the end. The Zoomers exhaust uses a baffled chamber on each pipe in place of the resonator and also in place of the mufflers. Had to be less restrictive than stock. Maybe you could use something similar to that. It has a little pop on deceleration (mostly because of the heavy stock flywheel, I think), but I really don't pick up any drone on the highway. Either way, I am sure it will sound good.

I got all the fuel system parts ordered this morning. :bann:

Now I'm getting ready to call a yard in Cali that Dennis turned me on to. Trying to get a deal on an engine and trans combo now instead of just the engine. :metal:

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

I just got off the phone with a guy named Roger, Scott didn't answer. Shipping is good @ $200, but he quoted me $2500 for a complete low mile combo. I told him that was out of my budget and that I need to look at some things :D and I would call him back. I really don't need all the things that they offer to send, so I think I can get him down lower.

Here are some Egay listings that may or may not help. Worth a look though...right?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-06...Q5fAccessories

This place has a lot of really inexpensive listings, and may be able to accomodate your needs. Might be worth a call.

damn, i think thats bull... i have a quote in front of me that says $2000 w/ $175 for tax.(that you wont have) i'd defiantly keep trying scott. funny though, scotts' last name is rodgers.

i have the vin # of the tahoe it was coming out of too. worst comes to worst (if they keep stiffing you) i'll fax this quote to ya! 5 hun is 5 hun. :metal:

try asking for that kid octavian. he's is the one that turned around and asked how much and scott said $2000 from radiator to fuel tank...

btw $200 for shipping seems like a hell of a deal. i expected a lot more...
how much(if you dont mind) did the fuel system end up being?

glock35ipsc 07-27-2009 11:11 AM

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Oh heck yeah, I'd take a fax of that! That would definitely help me negotiate that down. I'll PM my fax number to you!

Edit - Forgot to add, fuel system total so far is $292.23. That's the filter/regulator with fittings, 2 fuel pumps and the high psi switch valve. Still need hose and SS clamps.

I got free shipping through JCWhitney (saved ($15.95) and 5% off at Rock Auto. :metal:

Thanks for the link! I had looked at those guys before, but their engines are sold without accessories. By the time the minimum necessities were added, it was much higher than any fully dressed ones I had found.

I'm pretty happy with what I found. They will unbolt the engine and trans mounts, and unplug and include every harness on the truck related to the powertrain and pull it as one unit. Radiator and shroud, fuel system components, trans yoke, head pipes, fuse block...... everything. I will probably be able to sell a lot of it and recoup a little bit of money.
