In the picture below are a couple of items I had chrome plated. On the left is a bracket I made for my Ford remote solenoid. The solenoid was bolted to the fender well and I did not like that so now the solenoid will be mounted on the bracket and the bracket bolted to the frame but sitting at a 40 degree angle to the fender well and the wires will be few and hidden as much as possible. Later I will show a mock up of what I'm doing, I'm sure some one is thinking , "what the hell is he talkin' 'bout?" :lol:
On the right is the original steering column drop. I thought about getting a fancy custom billet column drop but since the stock one worked with the '77 Chevy van column I decided to chrome it since that was cheaper then buying a billet one. The other pictures are the column drops I had considered buying. |

That guy in the video is nuts.lol I like to be around people with that kind of enthusiasm about cars. That guy reminds me of myself and when it comes to hotrods.lol Thats BC Toy chest's twin when it comes to engines. He is nuts just like that guy about engines.lol

One time this guy drove his pro street truck up to the same place and parked next to my truck and people treated him differently, criticised his truck because of how he built it, then your rat rod crowd wants to talk about the people that use billet and the guy with the fully restored 1976 Dodge Aspen gets laughed at coz most people would not see that as a classic or a muscle car. I remember years ago an editor of Super Chevy wrote about the snobs of the car hobby and how they should watch what they say. He told the story of how this guy and his wife left the show early in their fully restored Nomad because they were discouraged by all of the " you should of done it this way , or you don't do it like that" Well wonder of wonders, when trophy time came their car won but they didn't know it coz a handful of know it alls nit picked them to death. HAHA Wow those rydes make muscle cars & our stuff, look tame and whimppy, lol. It's amazing what deep, deep pockets and a little bit of imagination can do. Now, that owner of the '55 Chevy with the Merlin engine, may have gotten his inpiration from, Ed Wood's 12 cylinder 1,710 cid Allison powered '64 Chevy Malibu back in the early 70s. Attacking some rust and old body filler that was slathered on one of the fenders and they used so much filler they pluged a hole without doing any metal work. They just contoured the filler to the shape of the metal lol. The previous owners.

Is that RED LEAD than your top coating the body filler with?? My question dates me I'm sure but back in the day that stuff didn't srink & stretch very well. Is it something new fangled??

It fills in small imperfections, scratches & pinholes in body filler. It doesn't require much and what you see in the picture most of that is sanded away. I have never had any problems with the stuff. If you try to use a lot like it was a regular filler it will shrink and stretch and pull away. RED LEAD is probably another name for it. I don't know. I know the other pictures of the fender have nothing to do with what you asked me , lol. I forgot to put them up:lol: Thy are just a continuation of the last pic. of all the bondo being removed and bad metal being cut out from the front fender, gona make a patch and weld up that hole. |
