Good looking truck.

A '64 or '65 6500 with a 478 V-6 Gas.

Most likely a West Coast truck with the Budd Wheels on there.

Probably has a 5 X 3 or 5 X 4 Trans.

Yes, Fresno is in the California Central Valley.

I used to see a lot of similar 8-10 yd. GMC gas V-6 tandem dumps. A lot of Ford FT-900 Super Duty Ford dumps too.

Great pictures. I love older ones. This thread started out for GM semis, but there isn't a general thread for just GM trucks, so...

Thanks for the Tractor-Trailer Pics, Special-K. Been Driving Since 74, Tons of makes and models. Always for a company ,looking to get my own vintage Tractor. You see anybody in the Biz calls em Tractor trailers or just units. There is nothing Semi about them. A great organization to check out is ATHS. The American Truck Historical Society. This years annual Meeting/Show
in Lexington Ky.

Drove one of those Cracker Boxes like the red one in the pic with the Doubles. Sorry but it was a P.O.S. Maybe Gms worst offering besides the Brigader...: gmc2:

What was your favorite GMC all through the years?

Curbfeeler26 01-30-2018 10:23 AM

Re: GM Semis

Probably an old Chevy 6000 straight truck. Landscaper had one for his water truck. Did not drive to many GMs. Mostly Fords, Whites, Macks,KWs, Peterbuilts and Internationals. Towards the end the Volvos were the Best. Comfy, Quiet and dependable. :gmc2:

I'm going to guess that you were not a Detroit fan, lol.

By the way, I've been an online member over at the ATHS forums for many years now. But it just doesn't have the activity that it used to have. The shows they have are still impressive though from all the pictures and videos that we get to see from them.

Detroit-Allison in some LN 900 Fords where OK. They were fine in the city. Now you have these road Tractors delivering LTL in the city. For many years we used the Ford cabovers. Bench seat bolted to the floor. OH my aching back... :flag:

I bet it was better than the old '62 GMC 6500 I used to drive. The Seat was so wore out that we had an old winter coat folded up so we could see over the steering wheel, lol. Funny as they reconditioned that truck and it turned out real nice, but they never did the Seat. I asked the mechanic if he would rebuild it for me, but he never got to it.

I'm an outsider to the trucking world, just a truck lover all my life and worked in the vocations so trucks were involved. I used to drive bigger trucks before the CDL thing when needed. Anyway, I never knew truckers don't use the term semi. I know states use it on license plates and I've been hearing it all my life. I figured the semi part referred to them being tractors and trailers, so just the tractor is a semi portion of the whole. But I also learned "Good Buddy" isn't as popular a CB term as we were led to believe in the '70s and means something most don't want to be called

It's not wrong. Just an Industry thing. But over the years you never heard a driver say "I'm going out to my Semi". The guys around before me filled me in on what to call an enclosed trailor, they called them Vans. Because in the 40s & 50s there were no small panel truck vans as we know them today. Hey ! Special K "Great Forum" I love all the unique pics... :gmc2:

Hey, Special K, work your magic and find somemore pics of the orange 62 63 in post 1728. I have a pic of the pass side quartering but that's all. I hope mine looks that good someday, I'm going with a 456 cab and factory yellow with white top.

Thanks. I thought it might be something we could enjoy. I do call them vans. I used to hear dry goods van, box van, or van body.

Ok, I'll see if I can stumble blindly into any more shots of that beauty for you. At first I thought this was it

I thought I remembered it was for sale somewhere. I don't know what parts you wanted to see, but there are others in this thread (if you can find them). I stumbled across a similar truck when Googling for more pictures that is in here

The truck above is a '62. It's a little too hard to see if that one has a Straight Front Axle like the '62 GMC 6500 has (it's equivalent). It looks like the truck in picture #1743 has one, but it could be a '63.

Both are beautiful trucks by the way.

thanks 5Tractorguy, I had the upper pic of the pass side but the bottom pic is new to me and that's the kind of picture I like. Gives me something to strive for. And thanks C10-C90 Bill for watching for more pics. There are 4 or 5 pics of the yellow single axle on post 1743, not sure if they are on this forum. I,ll see if I can find them and post. I think the yellow one is straight axle. These trucks drive me crazy.

Another GMC 6500. That one is either a '62 or '63. It wasn't that long ago that we didn't have a single one here on the boards (or anywhere, lol). Great to see that we keep finding them.

Since the one I drove back in '71-'74, I still have never seen another, other than in pictures, that's how rare they are. And I was/am always on the look-out. Junk yards and all, lol.
