Re: LS engine swap info

I am looking for a cost effective header. Where did you purchase. I do not prefer thin headers.

Did you do the duals or dual to single?

Did you place the 02 sensor right after the header?

Re: LS engine swap info

No one makes a long tube header for the LS 4x4 blazer swap.
I looked around and only found shorties, which didn't interest me. They aren't worth much power over the truck manifolds, which are actually a decent flowing piece, said to be one of the best LS manifolds aside from the vette. For $500 for shorties I elected to just use the truck manifolds.

I simply made some exhaust pieces out of mandrel bends to connect the manifolds to my current exhaust system, which is a dual exhaust. I then welded in 02 bungs right after the exhaust manifolds in a convenient spot.

At some point if someone comes out with long tubes, I'll swap over.

How about the Doug Thorley headers for LS swaps into 67-72s? I think part # 324Y-C. As for cost effective, that's a different matter.

.....most guys are using long tube camaro or chevelle ls swap headers..they seem not to hang lower than the frame...but if it's a 4x4 it wouldn't really matter anyway?

Those are only 1 5/8" primary tubes, and all the Dougs truck headers are of the Try-Y design.... Guess if you are just looking for a set of headers and didn't mind those details, these would get the job done for you...
I prefer at least 1 3/4 for a small LS, or 1 7/8 for larger LS.

I haven't seen that done in a 4x4 swap yet. Plenty of 2WD's though.
I'm not sure what year camaro you are speaking of. I have 2 4th gen camaro's here with LS engines and long tube headers in both. The driver side header collector has a weird kick out toward the rocker on both cars (to clear bellhousing) at about 20 degrees. That would be nearly impossible to make work in a 4x4 blazer when you have a pair of crossmembers and a transfer case to deal with.

My chevelle and 1st gen camaro doesn't have an LS in either, so I have no idea what those swap headers look like. Guess I'm just not willing to experiment with a $700+ set of headers...but I'd plunk the money down in a heart beat if something out there on the market worked for certain.

I was hoping someone would chime in with pics that has actually done this but it doesn't seem to be a popular swap as of yet?

Oh okay. I have a 2nd gen here as well, (but no LS) so I'd be curious to see what those headers look like.
I know what you mean. I beat myself up over this last summer when I did my blazer LS swap. I just couldn't find the answers I was looking for. Seems people shy away from the long tubes when 4x4 blazer is part of the picture

Funny though, I had long tubes in the blazer with the original 350 (Hedmans), and they fit rather nice with good clearance for the transfer case, although the collectors and primary tube length was a bit short to accomplish that.
So I don't see why someone in the aftermarket couldn't make a set for an LS. Probably not enough demand I guess.

I am also very interested in what headers will work on a 2wd, I'm seeing ya'll are talking about the 2nd gen LS headers and Chevelle headers, but what brand are ya'll referring to?

Re: LS engine swap info

I used a 98 camaro driver side manifold and truck passenger side manifold. I installed an 02 bung on the passenger side as the manifold did not have a provision. The camaro dirver has a hole provision for the 02 sensor already on it.
I finally got my LS running with 0 issues. I can't believe it fired up at the flick of the key.
Now for all the other fun stuff like brakes, shifter, and wiring.

Actually they do sell larger versions. 324y-c is the 1-5/8" version but 323y-c is the 1-7/8" set. I called up Mike just last week and ordered a set and he gave me a great deal on them.

Also, tri-y headers are great for low and mid range power they just lack a bit of the top end that long tubes have. Since I don't plan on running my truck at 6500rpms all the time I think they'll be fine.

Re: LS engine swap info

I would like to see some pictures installed. I am running a LS2 with the Porterbuilt drop member (long ways from running LOL) and most guys seem to be going with the PaceSetter 98-02 Camaro long tube headers. I dont like how the drivers side kicks out so much. I was thinking of trying the TrailBlazer SS headers but am not sure if they will work with the drop member, but I do have a TBSS so I could run them on that if they dont fit the C10, but then again I do like the look of these Doug Thorley's.

I don't think the DT's will work with the PB extreme dropmember. However, I'm 99% sure these will:

I have these headers in my son's '82 with a LS and a raised stock crossmember. Should work well with a PB crossmember too.

Hey Rob have you figured out what headers your going to run on your sons truck. I'm wondering if the Doug Thorleys would work for me with my touring dropmember. That is if I decide to change over

not sure if these have been mentioned....but the Hedman/MuscleRods mid-length 1 3/4" x 3" set at Pace Performance in raw steel.....for $309! Or...with the HTC 1300 degree, Shinny Silver Finish for $579
BTW....they show fitting as '67-'98.

Not quite sure yet. I know 2010+ Camaro factory manifolds will work. So those BBK's should work. I've got to put the motor back in and put the cab back on, then I will decide...:waah:.
