Trying to get back on this. Work has been crap for over a year now. So sick of construction. I really wanted to go to work for the waterjet guy, and for a while it looked like it was gonna happen. He was even talking about me eventually being a partner. Now all of a sudden he's having a midlife crisis. He's shutting down a successful business, with lots of customers, and is gonna go drive truck in North Dakota.....Idiot. I was even trying to get him to let me run it, and pay him a percentage, but he just wants to put everything in storage and walk away. Damned frustrating.

Anyway, I've been trying to find things to do on my truck that don't take any money. I got my lower bag mounts final welded, and I pulled my 12 bolt out, tore it apart and started cleaning it up for paint. I've gotta replace all the seals and gaskets, as well as install my 3.73 gears and posi. The old drum brakes were completely shot, and I found a cheap way to do rear disks, I ordered these, brackets an eventually I'll need to get stock front 73-87 rotors and calipers. I'll post some pics when I get the brackets and get them welded on.

Just got my brackets, I DO NOT recommend brackets from these guys. They're 3/8" which is nice, but the fit and finish is so sloppy, they're gonna need a lot of work. I'll take some pics when I can.

Hey Clint - I'm not sure if you would be interested or not but I am looking for someone to help me build these crew cabs. I've looked through this build and it looks like you have the kind of skills that I am looking for. I like the way you think outside the box. Give me a call and lets see if we can work something out. :flagw:

hey Clint, I'm about as far along as you are on a 72 k10 build with 52s dana60 14bolt with discs sm465 w205.

I dont have a garage, all my work has been done in the yard outside so my progress is about 300 times slower than yours is. I havnt gotten to the downpipe off the turbo yet. I know its going to be right into the frame rail or just outside of it if its straight down. Have you given any thought into trying to get the downpipe INSIDE the frame rails?

Get Eldorado calipers. They have provisions for parking brake. Ill see if I can find the part number or at least model year vehicle

My plan is getting the downpipe inside the framerail. I've got pictures of how I want to modify the passenger side manifold so the downpipe will fit past. Next time I'm on my computer I'll post it.

As far as the Eldorado calipers, I've read ther

Sorry, my phone is being stupid. The eldorado calipers are prone to problems plus they're three timss the cost. I'm planning on running a transfer case brake.

I made them out of 1/2" rod and 1/4" plate

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel

The other day I was cruising craigslist looking for seats for my nova, and I came across a guy that was scrapping several cars. I went out to his place and scratched out on my seat hunt, but came home with another 6.5td, and an NV4500. The motor runs but supposedly needs a head gasket, but I only gave $350 for both and he pulled them. So now I need to convert the trans to 2wd to work with my divorced transfer case, and I'll probably sell off the IP and ECM from the motor. I'd like to eventually replace my 83 K5 with a 69-72 K5, and use this 6.5 and my NV3500 and make a killer DD for the wife.

So if anybody needs to convert their 2wd to 4wd, lets swap some parts.

Cool build man!
I like it.

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel

Finally ended up with a 2wd nv4500. I found a local guy that had several. He just swapped me straight across. I need to get back on this project, but my Nova has taken my extra time and money. I swapped in a 250 L6, T5 tranny, and full interior from an 01 Chrysler 300. I just want to get it moving under its own power, and then I'll get back on my truck.

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel

Finally got what resembles steady work, so I'm slowly making some progress on the nova and the truck. I pulled the fuel tank out of the nova to figure out what I need to do for an EFI fuel pump, and I dropped off the rear end out of the truck at the powdercoaters. I should get it back tomorrow. I need to pull the cab back off of the truck, and setup my nv4500 and I think I need to move the transfercase back a little. I'll post some pics when I get the rear axle back together.

Try on ebay for u-bolts. Some places sell the rancho ones at a decent price on there. U-bolts have gone way up in price. Just be sure you get good hard ones and not grade 5 pos's. Those seats in the Nova look really nice!
