Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Yeah that is pretty sweet. Maybe I'll try out some rings and see. I think I just need to fork over the $200 for the chrome re-pop hubcaps. Maybe sell my set to recoup some of that. It's supposed to have the chrome caps anyways.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Got another window installed today. unfortunately, I cracked the forward glass when I was putting it into the frame. Dang it. I wasn't in the mood to pull it back apart and have another glass cut so it will do for now.
I also painted the center trim plate black to see how it looks. I kinda like it. http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps05ba2172.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps5ad3481f.jpg |

Going back to the wheel question Cort60,
I'm sure you have seen this truck before from Vintage Trucks magazine. I like the paint treatment and wide whitewalls that he used. I recently had some rims and caps powder coated white, but may go this direction too. I do agree that all white would be too much for your rig. |

I like the black pillar also, it creates a nice silhouette of the window cut out. :mm: |

A few bad pics...
He is listed as a member on this forum under that name, but I don't think he posts. His seat is reminiscent of what you just stitched up. |
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
That is beautiful. It reminds me of my old '60 Pick up. Same color. Thanks for posting that.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Thought I'd update what I'm currently up to.
Have to get ready for a car show here in town in two weeks so today I took care of some needed little things like: changing oil, replacing canister oil filter housing with spin on housing, replacing temp sender, etc.... Then, I thought since I was at my work shop and we have industrial buffers, I took a shot at buffing out my 53 year old paint. And I am really happy that it shines so much. Now you can really see all of the dents! Looks much better though. http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps84f8d4db.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps5fc4d1e2.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps02c847b8.jpg |
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
I think your hubcaps look great with the black wheels!! Don't change a thing

Looking sweet, keep after it

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Cort,
I think the blacked out center bar makes the truck look longer, as it gives the appearance that the rear window is one big piece (from a distance). I still think the back end needs to come up a little. I have always liked the look of these suburban's with a little nose low rake to them (2wd only of course!) The wheels need to be a contrasting color from the whitewalls. Can you photo shop the wheels to body color and see what it would look like? My 2 cents;) |
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Yeah I would love to edit the wheels with body color but I just bought a Mac and don't know how to yet. Haha.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Oh, and as for the back end, I still don't have the proper springs in there and my air shocks have a slow leak. I need to find me some pick up springs

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
I think the black wheels look excellent. Just the right amount of contrast. If you paint them body color, it'll be too repetitive.
From the roof down, it'd be Blue White Blue White Blue White to the hub cap in the center. The whitewalls and hubcaps tie in with the white on the body, the black wheels tie in with the black on the tires and the black on the hub cap, the whole thing is tied together cleanly and neatly. Eaton Detroit Spring is where I got the springs for my Suburban. I went with stock pick-up springs... mine sits a little higher than yours in the back, but I routinely load it up with a lot of stuff for my swap meet, hauling parts, etc. etc. Right now it has 850 pounds of sway bars in the back of it, and earlier this month it had a little more than that of scrap metal. For me, the stock pick-up springs lowered the rear of the Suburban a couple inches and works perfectly. The set of pick-up truck 2-inch lowering springs made the Suburban too low for me. -Brad |

I dig the hubcaps like that, I think they look more unique than the body color thing

What "Show in town" are you talking about? I live in Portland area, wanting to meet up with all of you forum guys if possible.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Well boys, I've lost all steam on this old girl. I think my focus is shifting on projects I want to have and I'm thinking of selling the suburban. I have an ad up currently in Portland Craigslist to feel it out. I will be making an ad for our classifieds shortly. I'm just a little burnt out on it and could use the money for other projects.

Sorry to hear that, However I see your pain :gmc2:

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
I really know what you are saying.. Mine has just stalled. A little more body work but it is still only partially painted. Time and money, money and time...AND it takes that constant forward movement.
It's a pretty Burb. You have done well. |
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
I'm still hemming and hawing over this. Not many responses on my CL ad, more than likely because I priced it a little high, kind of on purpose...haha. A big part of me doesn't want to sell it yet. I am away from home so I haven't been able to make an ad for the board.

Just remember...once she is gone..she is gone...:waah:
Think long term here buddy... :metal: |
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Well boys, it's done. The new owner drove her away tonight. I feel ok about it. I got my asking price, which was a little high, so that is great. I have so many other projects that need my attention, especially my '78 short box. So, thanks for all the help and advise and criticism and what have you. You guys are great, but now that I no longer own a 60-66, I guess you'll find me mostly in the 73-87 forum. Thanks everyone!

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
sad to see you go... I am just looking up your w/s tech right now...
maybe another 60-66 will come along and get your interest.... |
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Is it staying in PDX ?
|
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
I hope you turned the new owner on to our forum so we can continue to see the old girl grow in her glory. My 60 feels like it lost a sibling...:whine:

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Cort, Thanks for all the photos, posts, stories, and build ideas on this GMC Suburban. You have given us Suburbanites much to consider.
Look forward to the work you will do on the 78 Diesel Shortbed. |

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
Damn Cort,
First the pickup, now the Suburban! You have a new daily to replace the 78? Is the 78 capable of towing the trailer over hill and dale? As for the hood scoop I guess you could take some photos of it or something, not much use to you now. Your going to have to change your avatar, cause you don't choke anything manually anymore...unless its your chicken! |
Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)
I know the feeling Cort. I just sold my 70 today (he picks it up next weekend).
I love watching all your projects over the last several years, so I guess you an I are stuck with just our squares now. |

Not sure what I'll do with the hood scoop. Sad part is, I just had the bezel of it chromed and it looks so good! I guess I'll wait a little and throw it on ebay or something. It is only getting rarer and rarer. The Squarebody tows the camper just fine. Almost every trip I've made in the camper has been behind the square. You just have to be patient, and on the hills just throw on the hazards and wait it out. Haha. |
