so the doors had to come off in order to properly clean the gunk out from the previous weather strip behind the hinges area, I used a wire wheel and the section cleaned up really nice, then I sprits it with some no primer needed black spray paint, I'm not one of those guys who paints and a minute later bolts the part back on the vehicle, I like to give it at least 24 hours to dry, so we will glue on the new weather strip tomorrow

now is a good time as any to mention the rubber weather strip metal retainer strip that screws on to the bottom of each door, or more importantly the broken screws that used to hold one on there

with the old weather strip off, now is the opportune time to extract those broken screws, its a PIA but they do protrude about 1/2" on the inside so taking your time you can unscrew them inward with some vice grips

Fun Fact: on my passenger side door I was able to unscrew all the screws but one, only one broke off, on the driver side it was quite the opposite, only one came out properly, and the rest of them broke off

LOL, thanks, it's been very up and down lately! but we've made some progress on the passenger side door

then it was BTT (Blue Tape Time)

obviously it's easier and messier to do two things at once, so rather than just painting I decided to also apply the weather strip at the same time, so more BTT to guard against black concrete cement overspread

CAUTION FROM THE FUTURE ME: this proved to be an Epic Failure and a waste of money. I could not get the doors to shut with this weather strip on no matter what I did. I even tried only running it above the windows and still had to push on the doors with both hands while standing outside the vehicle to finally get them to latch, not the way you wanna haul your girls around.

I relied on my trusty eyecrometer to set a perfect approximate perimeter all the way around except for here, here we didn't need no stinkin' blue tape

here are the Three Easy Steps to apply the weather strip adhesive
Step 1. apply tube of adhesive to the two edges of the door until you run out

Step 2. run to the local auto parts house to get more adhesive

Step 3. finish applying the second tube of adhesive to the two sides of the rubber weather strip

Nice job. Would it be cheaper to send my doors to you or fly you to my doors?

so we picked up two tubes of the sticky black stuff today in preparation to do the other side

funny how 3M plays the we're a big company so we will do what ever the hell we like and uses two different part numbers for this stuff, I recon it has something to do with the size of the tube

Part #08581 being the Jr size

Part #08006 being the bigger size

and let's not forget Part #08011 the one Dr. J actually recommends we use but no local parts houses carry it, and Amazon can only ship it via steam locomotive and needs 2 moons time to do so

so before we set out to remove the vent window on the driver side we decided to make life a little easier for ourselves and went out and procured these Ukrainian tip drivers

next we have to drill out that pivot rivet, lucky for me mine had a dimple which I could use as if I first used a punch on it to locate the center type of thing

it only takes about 57 drill bit sizes to step up to what you need

and you just keep enlarging the whole until you feel like you can punch it out, I don't drill it to the edges so I don't enlarge the whole, you can use a file to file it down flush before using a punch to know it out
