Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video- INTERCOOLED
I drove up to the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green and had a great talk with a couple of turbo guru's and decided to pull the trigger on an intercooler.
After MANY measurements, sketches, and searching I figured it out. The install was not that hard. I purchased everything from ebay for $200 to my door. 2.5"- 8 piece- black powdercoated intake piping and a 28x9x2.75" Bar and Plate intercooler from CXRacing. Both products were very good quality. It was a tight fit and only had to trim an 1" off of the top of the grill, which was painful to cut into an original piece. But, it had to be done. Impressions> With the exact same wastegate/mbc setup which was 10 psi , it now runs at 7 psi. So I had a 3 psi pressure drop across the intercooler. The ass dyno feels like 7 psi, is equal to the 10 psi from before. I plan to do a little tuning and crank it back up to 10 psi. I have only shaken it out once, but my first ever 2nd gear scratch got a fist pump. Thats cool that you can barely notice the cooler behind the grille! Very cool! Is the psi supposed to drop with the addition of an intercooler? I guess I'm not very familiar with driving a hot-air setup and then adding an intercooler. Either way, glad you finally took that step. You might want to think about getting some radiator paint and shooting it black for the ultimate stealth look...unless you are wanting to show a bit of "hey, this rig is turbo'd" for those who would actually notice.

Here is a pic of the turbo inlet screen. I have very little room for an air filter, so a good buddy from Greening Auto Company recommended to run a foam filter sandwiched between metal screens. He has them on a 8 stack fuel injected setup. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-3...urboscreen.jpg |
