Thanks. Seats look better in person. Full power with butt warmers. I still gotta mount the back seat and build the seatbelt anchors.

Last week I got my rear axle back from powdercoating. I had left the axle bearings in because they were in good shape and pressed in. Now they're coated in sand and powder. Is there an easy way to clean them out without removing them?

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel

I would think baked in powder and sand would be almost impossible to get completely out, you could probably try shooting in brake or carb cleaner. I wouldn't take the chance and just pull and replace them, not too bad a job if you have a good slide hammer.

I read all your build over again and didn't find how you fabbed up your crossmember for the divorced transfer case, got any info on how you did it?

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel

The TC crossmember is 1x2" square tube and 1/4" plate. I just got the TC set where I wanted it and built the crossmember around it. Ive never really been happy with it. I need to pull everything back apart and change the tranny crossmember for my nv4500. I'll take a few pics then.

I vote replacing the bearings or remove them and clean that thing really well! That sand gets in everything and will ruin your day when you start driving it.

Got my 12 bolt powdercoated, and back together. Im thinking about running it under my blazer for a few weeks to make sure everything checks out.

I had the stock cover powdercoated black too. Tomorrow I'm gonna get some stainless bolts for it. Then all I have left is the brakeline plumbing.

Hard to see with the glare, stainless button head bolts.

Got my 12 bolt back together and in. I used front brake hoses from a 79 Chevette, and ran all new hardlines.

http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps858ea0e0.jpg
made some hardline brackes out of sheet metal. I used a piece of 3/16 vacuum line to isolate the hardlines
http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...psd42b44a1.jpg
After that I started on my upper bag brackets. The passenger side is done, just needs painted. Tomorrow I'll finish the other side.

If anybody ends up with this same mess, I ended up pulling the axle bearings, hosing the inside down with engine degreaser, and blasting it all clean with a pressure washer.

Nice work on the truck! Those welds on your bag mounts look great too!

Painted the bag brackets and bolted them on for good.

And of course now that I've finally made some progress, I've got to put it on hold. I picked up a new DD/roadtrip rig.
http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps628008b9.jpg
Its also getting a 6.5td and 5 speed. No other major changes, so hopefully it won't take too long. I'll start a build thread on it when I tear into it.

We named her Bertha. I finally brought her home today. I pulled the cab off of my truck, and swapped out the NV3500 for the 4500, and then reset the cab. I was surprised it fit as well as it did. The 4500 makes the 3500 look tiny. I had to move the trans crossmember forward a few inches, and I need to make new TC shifters.

For now I'm gonna roll it outside and cover it up so I can work on Bertha. My wive has given me a very small window to get Bertha on the road. And I've been meaning to post this picture.

2 1/2 thru 4" bends. I've got the hookup on these bends if anybody does their own exhaust.

Re: Ultimate work truck/ 70 K10 diesel

Clint, I'd like a couple 4" and maybe 1 3" U bends for twins piping. Nice to hear you got your NV4500 in there too!

The Cummins is probably the best most reliable engine out there! The dowel pin is an extremely easy fix with the engine out anyways. Chrysler made a great decision to put this engine in their trucks. I think the rest of the truck is junk otherwise. Just remember Cummins is not Chrysler.

That comment was 2 1/2 years ago bro.

Yea I realize that but this is my first time reading this thread and maybe someone elses too. Nice build by the way! You seem to find some really good trade deals.

Yeah. I kick myself every time I walk past it covered in a tarp. Life, 2 other projects, and a divorce kinda got in the way. Hopefully, I can get back on it this winter or spring. I think its gonna be a pretty stripped down truck with an offroad style flatbed and no muffler.

Sorry to hear about the divorce. I hope everything is going well now.
