If you look closely, you can see the turbo spinning!!! He's ALIVE!!! George is ALIVE!!! I've dreamt of what this motor is going to sound like for the last 2 years. Right now we are running, but still not out of the woods. Have to work out some sensor/ power issues and get it dyno tuned. Hopefully I can get him back in the next couple of weeks. I have a ton of ideas drawn up for future metal work.

Afternoon all. Slowly making my way back to the forum. Past December marks the 1yr anniversary that George has been at the shop. Here's where we are at..
Shop was able to get this thing running, but ran into issues with the internals/ oiling. We could pull it/ tear it apart and find what those issues are, but at this juncture I'm choosing to just find a running motor and get it in. Existing motor was purchased on Craigslist. With not knowing exactly what the previous owner did? My friend and I changing the lifters/ head gaskets and me putting this thing together over the pandemic in my garage, this poor motor never had a chance, haha. Here the info on the new donor: 2005 LQ9 6.0 with 317 heads pulled from a running/ driving Cadillac Escalade. I stripped it down/ painted and the plan is to swap intake/ accessories over from the 5.3. Really hoping on this working. Not willing to give up on him yet. My "Work" truck (2020 Silverado) has been benefiting from not having anything to play with in the last year. Lots of goodies installed.

Just read through your whole build. Very cool man. Awesome fab work. It’ll be cool to see it running!

Thanks!! I have this vision of the truck flying down the highway with flames shooting out the side fender exhaust. Hoping to make it an reality.

After 2.5 years & 2 motors later we are running!! I beyond thrilled that George is coming home! We did some mods with the new motor which include
Remote coils, plug wires and new turbo waste gate down pipes. For now, they did a conservative tune not knowing what the trans/ rear can handle. Right around 630ish horsepower and 717 pounds of torque. I'm more than pleased with that. Just walking around the truck, my mind is seeing a thousand thinks that I can get right to work on when he's home. Don't give up on your projects!!! Some just take longer than others.

He's home! Had a nice test drive, roughly 35 miles home from the shop. A lot of power and when boost builds up, hold on:). One thing I knew right away is that I'd have to take care of the fire pit of where the old shift boot was. The heat and debris flying out of there was crazy. Spent Sunday covering the holes, installing the valve covers I modified and tidying up some wires. Excited to have him back and making a check list of "To do's".

So the shakedown begins. After some miles little things have popped up. The turbo oil feed developed a small leak at its connection. I made the feed and not knowing any better used an aluminum flange. It stripped and here we are. Ordered new professionally made line with steel ends. Also noticed a small crack at the neck of the clutch master fluid reservoir. This was another cheap eBay find. Replaced with a Triumph motorcycle metal reservoir. Hoping a couple more small cruises will get everything dialed in to get back to metal fab "The fun stuff"

"One door at a time" Been awhile since I've done bodywork and now I remember how much it sucks :) Truck has these weird sporadic rust spots all over it and took some time to clean them up and make the panel straight. Not sure when/ if the truck will be professionally painted and don't want the primer look forever, so I going with rattle can green for now. Next task on the list will be a redo of the exhaust exit. After looking at it for a while, I just don't like it.

Now to deal with the pumpkin. Doing the metal work on a patch panel to make it easier. Since I'm so indecisive, if I don't like it I can just toss it. Salvaged the metal from the old fenders/ hood so all the body lines are the same. Will still have a good amount of work to get everything to mesh together on the truck, but happier with the tighter look so far.

I know, I know, stick to the plan....I just can't. When I focus on something I tend to OVER focus. Used this tip as a mock up, but will most likely go with a standard double 4" pipe.

Finally made it to a local cruise night. Weather was great and the highway trip to location was awesome. Long stretch of highway, bags aired down (just above scraping), cruising comfortably at 70 Mph, whistle of the turbo and my wife beside me, what a great feeling. Looking forward to more, if this wacky NJ weather ever lets up!

Was a productive Sunday. The pumpkin is gone! Now we have the 5" single going into double 4". Cut them long for now till I figure out what angle will look the best.

So, I guess I was banging through the gears too hard and the shifter literally broke off in my hand. Was local to my house and able add a band aid to get it home. Decided to update the entire shifter trans up. Ordered the Fabbot short shift kit. Was surprised that a little modification was needed, if I ordered the right one? Had to step bit out 2 of the holes to allow the plate to sit flush on the trans gasket.

Since I was a kid, I always thought a Hurst shift was the coolest thing. Didn't matter what car it was on. Knew I needed one for this truck. Fabbed up some brackets to get it comfortable and where it needed to be. Used heavy duty electrical shrink tubing to cover the bracket/ bolts.

This might sound a bit odd....but George gives me an "eye-rection".
