Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
Does anyone have experience with the spring meet?
Hints, Tips or Tricks? https://carlisleevents.com/ https://www.facebook.com/CarlisleEvents/ It is Wednesday, April 24th through Sunday, April 28th. I am planning on going up Wednesday and returning on Thursday. Never been there before so I hope to see tons of truck parts ('70 C10). Bill |
Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
I've been going for at least 10 years now. Almost always hit the spring Carlisle. Sometimes hit other shows during the summer.
Prepare to do a lot of walking. You are allowed to bring in food and drinks. I usually stop at the gas station on the way there, grab a sub, beef jerky, gatoraide, water, etc. so I don't have to worry about prices in the park. There is good food in the park, I'm just cheap. They sell beer there and I've brought beer in. I wear a backpack and leave a wagon in the car in case I see something heavy I want. Bring a poncho and umbrella in case it rains. Bring cash. Large vendors usually take cards, swap meet people don't. Parking in the official lots is like $10. You can usually park on someone's lawn for $5. Google maps the area before you leave. The park is in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Keep a decent idea of where you are on the map. The place is huge. You can usually download the event book from the website a couple weeks beforehand. It has a map and vendor list. Use this to plan out where you want to go. You can try to see it all, but you'll realize there is a lot not really worth seeing. Main thing is to remember how to get to the gate you parked your car at. Also where the bathrooms are. Might want to bring your camera. Lots of cool vehicles there. Think of what you want to get now. I usually make up a list. If I know I can get it on amazon, summit, or rock auto, I'll write down the specs and price. Show price might be better or worse, but if it's close, I'll grab it. I'd rather support these guys at the show. There are a bunch of vendors that sell tools. Get drill bits, cut off wheels, whatever cutting / grinding bits. Lots of places with electrical stuff - wiring, looms, crimp connectors. Lots of body work stuff. Lots of antique stuff. THEY SELL SINGLE SOCKETS AND WRENCHES! Good for when you lost one wrench or socket out of a set. I think I've rambled enough for now... EDIT: Thought of something else. If you want something big, like a floor pan, talk to the company a couple weeks before hand to see if they will be at the show. There are Chevrolet and Truck shows later in the summer too. Can really help to save on shipping. If there are members on the board selling things, they may be willing to meet up at Carlisle. Save on shipping and meet a board member. Double win! |

I was hoping to see some 67-72 parts plus '57 Chevy Two-Ten/Belair parts for a friend. Hopefully they have the dealer list, and what they carry, so I can D/L it before the trip. Food and water are always in my bag, but a sandwich is a great idea too. Thank you, Bill |
Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
if u see something u like buy it because later u wont be able to remember were it was 2 days is not enough my sons phone keeps track of the miles we walk and it comes out at just under 8 miles a day doing it since it opened

Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
The event catalog will have a dealer list. I think it specifies what kinda shop they are. I think they get listed alphabetically and then by type. That only covers vendors, not swap meet spaces.

Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
Will be there again this year as usual. There are a number of members that go every year. This year I may have a vendor spot. I've done it once. Don't normally do that. I wouldn't plan for Sunday. It's not normally a good day. Better off going during the week if you can.

Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
The guide does you no good unless you are only there to find specific dealers. You just need to hit every row. If I was only going for one day it would be Thursday. That was always the first day, until vendors started packing out so early Sunday is a joke. There may be some who are full-on set up ready to sell on Wed, but for many it is still set-up day. The management started calling it a Wed show to try to get that day back, but it's basically a Thurs-Sat show now.

I'm not saying Wed isn't such a bad day. Some guys are there ready to sell on Monday. But it really isn't filled in so well on Wed. At least not till later.

Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
Are you going to be set up? If so where? I met you last fall and got a bunch of parts off you. There is always more i need. A decent glove box door for starters.
|
Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
I'll be set up on NO40-41 with a friend, so one space for each of us. I have an assortment of glovebox doors. Let me know if there's a specific color and I'll bring it along.

Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
It was another great swap meet. Hung with 72c20customcamper as well as some chat time with quite a few. There were more people there on Friday and Satrday than Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday had a few brief very light showers that didn't phase a thing. Never covered my stuff. Friday was off and on showers but not early and although the showers were heavier there were only a few. I covered and uncovered my stuff three times for a while. But that almost tornado that came though was something! It was called for around 3pm. I was way across the grounds talking to the seat guy (Pete) and he said "I don't think you're going to make it". I trucked across, even looked at a few spots, just as I was finishing tying the tarp down it hit, and I dove into the side door of my Suburban. That passed and I went back to buy something I stopped to look at. The rain really had no effect on the overall event. You just look for an ez-up or tent to duck under, then carry on. It did get windy Friday evening and into Saturday morning, then just some gusts. It turned out to be a nice day.
Got back last night and it looks like a day of showers here today. Time to go unload. |
Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
Was a good meet. Sold some AMC stuff I had, hung out with Special-k. I brought my 10 year old grandson he had a blast. Natural born hagler.
Tim I got my hotel and truck coral spot for the truck nationals. Bringing the 68 long step. Just to many projects. See you in August . |
Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
I ended up being there on Wednesday only. Arrived at about 9:00, wandered around but most spaces were empty.
Anyone who posted a space in this thread was not there yet or I was lost and did not see you. Next trip should be the Chevy only meet. Had a great place to sleep but not sure if it will be available during Chevy only. Being our first trip, it took quite a bit of time to orientate ourselves. Bill |
Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
I didnt get there till Thursday around 2:30. Couldn't get away on Wednesday.

Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
i made it out for a few hours on Friday, grabbed a fender I needed and a big smokie... saw a few trucks and headed home as the last rain hit around 4pm... I live 45 min away so it's nice to sneak away from work every now and then

Re: Spring Carlisle Swap Meet. Anyone have plans?
Bill, sorry I missed you. I got to my spot mid-day Wed. The Chevy show should be better for securing a room, so you should have good luck getting the same place.
