I already have the garage cleaned out to make way for the project as soon as it gets here. Cant wait!!! I will start tearing into this thing this coming wekend.:metal:

Good luck with the build, it looks like you'll be starting off with a great looking Blazer.

Re: Project Blaz-Air
The transport company just dropped the Blazer off and man am I ready to get this project going. The body on this thing is better than I was expecting. Seems like I have a solid foundation and well worth the money that I spent. But we all know that there could be things hidden until we tear into them!! Heres a few pics that i just took in front of the house.

Re: Project Blaz-Air
I got to inspect it a little better in the daylight yesterday and overall the body on Blaz-Air is far better than I was hoping for. I do have to replace the rockers and the small patch panel on the drivers side just behind the door and the lower panel behind the rear drivers wheel will need to be hammered and dollied. Other than that it will be off to get rhino lined inside and underneath. We are taking it to a car show this weekend, but monday morning there will be some work being done.
|
Re: Project Blaz-Air
Are the rocker boxes in good shape? They are alot different
on Blazers vs. Trucks. Be sure you have the top on and use a door brace because the Blazer firewalls will move on you ;) (Not trying to insult your skills, just a FYI they are different) |

Re: Project Blaz-Air
So I was going to take the Blazer to one car show before I start tearing into everything Monday morning and I'll be damn if the bolt that holds the alternator bracket didnt break off into the head!!! Yea! So looks like I will be tearing into this weekend after all.

Re: Project Blaz-Air
Ok, so i fixed the bolt that broke off into the head today and decided to inspect the rockers today and what i found is that a PO did a shotty job when they attempted to do the work. The bottom of the rockers was not attatched so i lifted them up a little to discover some hidden treasures. The actual rocker boxes are in good shape, but theres some missing which i will get some more photos to show you once we actually cut the bad crap off. But there was this one piece that i pulled out that had some bolts attached and was wondering 2 things. 1) what is the piece that I am holding and where does it go? 2) Does anyone have some pics of what the post is supposed to look like behind the door jamb? So that I know exactly what its suppose to look like when I rebuild it. Thanks.

Re: Project Blaz-Air
Lookin cool already. Keep us posted with plenty of pics.

Re: Project Blaz-Air
Check out my thread on the blazer side- PO has me PO'd, about page 5 it covers the area in question...I'll try to find a pic of the part in question, it bolts to the inner rocker and the step up area
Nice project, post up lots of pics and good luck Also try to resize your pics to around 800x600, makes it easier to read your thread I'm subscribed |
Re: Project Blaz-Air
Post 121, covers it best, on my thread. You can also see the portion of the bracket that you are holding in your hand. Once you remove the rocker, and lower B post you will be at the step up portion and that should allow you to start the rebuild...
The pic. of the part with the 1" hole in it is not available, but Wes at Classic Heartbeat was working on one. You can call him and see how soon one will be available I can see what appears to be rust thru above the rocker in your pic, so be prepared to go aleast that high on your cut Keep the bracket as a template |

Re: Project Blaz-Air
I feel for ya. I bought my 2wd project from Luv 2 years ago and I had to replace 15 panels total on it. Not including having a homemade rocker box for the driver's side done up. 7 panels on each side plus the roll pan(can't really count that one can ya?)
Looks like it's going to be sweet |

Re: Project Blaz-Air
The one on the driver's side was eaten all up. The patch panel is like $150.

Re: Project Blaz-Air
Looks like a good start. You will also (99%) need the lower A pillar and the inner rockers as most of us have had to do this as well. Just do one side at a time before moving on and their is plenty of reference material here on the site to check with if you need to.
Here are a few to start with~ Rocker replacement 101 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...hlight=rockers Inner rocker panel replacement http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...hlight=rockers Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: Project Blaz-Air
Ok, Sorry I havent had a chance to show any updates in a while but despite how bad economy has been I have been so busy I have not had time to work on my toys. But that is all about to change. Several weeks ago I bought the Porterbuilt Dropmember from VA72C10 (Thanks!!!) and I just purchased a 2001 LS1 to go in this thing. I will post some pics up soon because I am anxious to start building this thing! Next purchase is some new 20x8.5 up front and 22x12s for the rear! Cant Wait.
