Project 7deuce

Figured I may as well post the progress of my other project too seeing as how I finally got the pics resized and ready to go. Some of these pics are pretty old but here goes, but 1st a little background on the truck. My dad bought the truck back when I was 8 or nine not sure which anyways we moved from cali to oregon with it and when I got done with h.s. my dad gave it to me for completeing school and then I moved out and have had it ever since... So on with the pics and history lesson..

Finally here we go The truck started out with a 350 and muncie 4 speed but I blew that up and then went througha few 305s the last one was 7 years ago and I have not driven it since. First things 1st I had to swap out the frame cause the one under it was bent so I got a3/4 ton truck and stole the frame out from under it got all the 72 sheetmetal bolted up. I dont have pics of any of that as I did not have a digital camera back then so here we go with the rebuild........... Heres a few pics of how it looked before it really got carried away... Started shaveing the bed pockets, door handles, and heater box, and started looking for a new tailgate..

Looks like I have someone else giddy to get the truck back on the road.. Heres the start of the 1 1/2'' front crossmember chop. Cut it apart and then since im no pro I had to make filler pcs...

FRENCHBLUE72 11-24-2007 09:14 AM

Re: Project 7deuce

One thing to remeber when you do one of these chops lots of welding and grinding and liberal use of the tape measure..

FRENCHBLUE72 11-24-2007 09:19 AM

Re: Project 7deuce

Finally some por 15 was laid on and she was ready to go back into the frame.. One thing you got to remeber was the dropmember was not out when I started this otherwise I would have gone that way..

FRENCHBLUE72 11-24-2007 09:26 AM

Re: Project 7deuce

So I figured that since that por 15 looked so good om the crossmember I may as well change the frame from gray to por 15 black... Got the crossmember fitted and when I was happy with the fit off it came agian.. And I figured while I was at it I may as well weld up all the holes in the frame now that I have been going back through these pics I see why these things thke so long.

It was at this point that we had found out that they had sent the wrong front shocks and mounts. I had also decided that I needed to order some drop spindals and new rotors along with new lower u-bolts and new uppernuts and alignement shims.

FRENCHBLUE72 11-24-2007 09:51 AM

Re: Project 7deuce

I got all the front end stuff done and back together and had a few steering issues to deal with but as xxl says nothing a little grinding cant fix and you can see why I need new lower u-bolts. I powdercoated the a-arm nuts with my new eastwood kit...

Even with all the cussing about sanding and welding the firewall it sure turned out killer... And I got my new pulleys, new oil pan,new timing chain and dipsticks on and I thought it was going back in for good but its been out a few times since.cover

More rust and some more por 15 on the inner rocker and on the inside of the outter rocker.

Re: Project 7deuce

Amen on how long it takes to shave the firewall and cap the channel. Hours of welding and grinding, the your result looks good. I still have a lot more welding and grinding, then filling and sanding to go. The look is worth the work. Good Job!

Alex

Here you can see the outter rocker is ready to be welded on(still not welded yet) Some shots of theinside of the cab with all the holes in the floors patched and the tranny cover shifter hole welded up and smoothed. And more of the killer por 15..

ya more progress........ vacation rocks.. I decided that I needed wider tubs to clear the wide rear tires I d like to run. So I broke out the cuttin wheel and zipped em apart and added some metal from donar tubs I had and welded em back together.

I cut the inside of the bed to make way for the future wheel and tire combo and finally installed my new intake (from mike nutt thanks.)and new valve covers. When I tried to install the carb the fuel outlet ran into the side of the valve cover so it looks like I ll have to look at other options.
