Nice score

Looks like you found that over in Western WA?

Is it currently running and driving?

sdwolff98 11-15-2012 02:08 AM

Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

not currently running was driven to its present location the owner sold the th350 out of it but still has the 283 for it in his garage. I am thinking that truck needs a duramax allison combo :D Found one up here for 3k I get to pull the engine myself plus trans and whatever else i need from the truck like a kid in a candy store lol. Going to bring the burb home next thursday to my new garage here in tacoma :D then friday go after the duramax next
it has a few cancerous areas but they are mostly on the outer panels floorboards have surface rust. Nothing that cant be fized with a little rust converter and fiberglass. Later model d44 front and 12 bolt rear end in it.

Great another K10 on the board. I'll be real interested in what you do with her. Especially the duramax allison swap. I've had thoughts of doing that with my 66 motor home.

I still think we need a Suburban sub forum for all of the 60-66 carryalls.

Hi Mike,
Still evaluating her for the possibility of that duramax or a vortec 350 they are common as mud and cheap as hell up here at the moment. Probably going the vortec route since it is a dirt simple drop in and wire up on those. I already have 1 project truck and going to make this my daily driver.

Thanks

There are 3-4 other 60-66 suburbans for sale in the state atm. One has no floor board priced at 200 the rest running from 2500-4500 depending on condition atm.

well dropped into see a duramax owner with and engine for sale today. he said the trans has some cold shifting issues that go away once all warmed up hmm have to look into that issue. But for the engine/trans/tcase, engine wiring and computers, underhood fuseblock, interior pedal plus gauges and harness and anything else that just falls out into my box such as electronic t case buttons and etcs 3150$. engine fired up revs and idles smoothly no to finish removing it tommorrow morning then crawl up under the dash and get after the harness iring there :D. Will have some pics up tommorrow night once it is home. Stumbled across a guy did this engine in a 66 k20 but the bugger aint answering his msgs with a few questions i have about engine fitting in our frame oh well will tackle that once both are home and i can rip the burbns nose off n git to work lol.

I like it.

That's good that you got her home. Some of that blue paint looks pretty good still.

I just noticed that there aren't any slider windows in the back....all fixed glass. Someone must have changed them.

Hey capn,
Some of the burns came with solid side Windows in them. Yeah paint ain't bad will work an fixing the area that need it and fiberglass the few holes that are there. Them paint to match.

Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

as I am finding out this truck has a few oddities to it. the factory front suspension is way jacked up and the axle the owner at one point put in the rear have has a 6 inch spacer block to match the front suspension level which is factory. Another is the front core support mounts are a shear style rather than the metal brackets rivet to the frame as the trucks have. The body mounts in the front are traditional chevy truck style and the second set are flat cushion styles. interesting stuff getting ready to start wire brush grinding the front floor board for rust converting and then either por 15 or bedliner spray in stuff :D. then will start on the body and duramax engine next. that guy finally replied and is supposed to be sending some pics of his duraamax install :D I have a set of 95-98 chevy buckets that came with the truck to put in and a few other parts coming in over the next week or two to get this beginning to be whipped into shape :D

Welp driver n passenger seats are out OMG they were the most convaluted tv seats I have ever seen. Tonight will ne taking out the Floorboard shifter and wiring harness to start the Floorboard cleanup. Floor is in surprisingly good shape for its age. Get it cleaned up the spray bedliner material over it. Did fond both rest cab supports ate toast so will fab up a couple of cheap replacements and reinforcements for now. Once the floor is finished then fix the center floor underbracing and will be ready for engine n trans once home.

well after working last nigth and working all day today 28 hours and counting without sleep at this time. BUT!!!! I was dammed ifn I was gonna leave the engine in the donor one more stinkin day lol. AS of 6 pm this evening the engine was removed and as of 8 pm it is sitting on a couple of 2x6's on the engine hoist base frame. total length 86 inches long from tip of tcase to the cooling fan. here are some pics and also a pic of the thirds computer setup s for this hole thing! Tuesday I am going back over after work to get the entire interior assembly harness bcms gauges and a few other odds n ends such as the pedal and electronic tcase controls and the passslock key switch from the column so I can make a cheater to bypass the bugger entirely and use my factory key in cluster from the 66. Going to check out and see if it is possible to rotate the tcae 180 and make it a passengber side drop setup. I know will have to drill another vent hole if I do so and plug the existing vent setup. going to look at parts diagrams now and see if I can make it a reality lol :D

Wow that is a looooong day! I imagine you're catching up on some much needed sleep. I put in a 26 hour day this spring and quickly decided, I'm getting too old for that.

I'm looking forward to this Duramax install also. That would be cool if you can swing the TC over for a pass drop.

Hey Capn,
Yep n I have another day like that Tuesday when I go after the interior harness as well. Yeah I was looking at how the t case is setup and it looks like my main things to change are the oil pick up tube end and the t case vent location so should be feasible to do so since it has an electric short motor on it.

Hey Mike,
too answer your question it is out of a 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd CCLB truck. I am going back today to get all of the interior wiring harness, gauges, computers, switches, possibly steering column also and whatever else I can stash away in my donor box lol. Gonna be another 26 hour run today I have a feeling. I also am needing to get the transfer case wiring out from under the truck along with the shifter cable and bracket assembly. Once I get all this home tonight will drop it one the work bench and start on the truck floor board tommorrow after I get done at the registration office for the wife and myself. Thursday after I get more of the floorboard done going to drain the t case and see what I can monkey to make it a driver side drop lol :D . From there waiting on ups man with the radiator and multiple other parts!!!!! He is gonna be sick of fighting off the chihuahuas over the next couple of weeks *chuckles*
Capn got the brackets in thank you they look awesome think I am gonna just pain em for now trying to save as much cash as I can where I can.

It sounds like your Burb is going to be something like that turquoise '62 with the DuraMax, that has been posted on here several times. I quess the main difference is that, that one was on the whole Silverado chassis.

You must be slammin' Monsters or Redbull or something to keep up this pace.

sdwolff98 11-28-2012 01:30 PM

Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

Hey Capn,
No monsters the occasional redbull lol but mostly mississippi mud coffee that is far cheaper. Slowing it down this wekk. Ran into a stumbling block on the donor truck made me rethink a few lil things I have the bcm and its connectors and the pedal for the app sensors. I got the gauges but when I pulled to panel apart they are nested into a single circuit bord grrr. Looking at it might just make my own cluster. Be posting up some more later this week of pictures todays project will be cleaning the floorboard up.

Well trip to ace hardware tommorrow for some nuts n bolts them registration office for wifes car then the games begin. Have a few more small items to remove from the burbs interior then dragging the grinder and brush out and get started on the floorboards. i have 2 quarts of paint on bedliner stuff to use all the way up the firewall once the rust is dealt with and go from there. Probably about 3-4 days cleaning and painting then start getting things set into place to remove the nose and do a test fit of the engine and transmission.

Been busy today gathering parts wiring parts, paint and brackets etc. grabbed some paint from home depot rustoleum for the hydroboost brackets and surprise surprise damm near the same color as the paint a shade darker but not very noticeable as yall shall see. got the first half the brackets painted and now waiting for them to dry to do the other side. also tackled the floorboard today and layed down a thick coat of the rust converter and waiting on that to dry hoping by this weekend will be ready for the paint in bed liner stuff I have. 10 ounces of rust converter for the entire floor of the burb so figure for a standard cab pickup you would porbably use between 6-7 ounces for one coat not bad for 8 bucks versus 40 for por 15 lol. also started working on the power steering box frame mount from rez and shore nuff the 4x4 used a diff steering box then the 2wd quick call to rez and he halped me figure it out just a few more holes to be drilled then it is on and in. apparently somebody reinforced that are of the frame in the past but they did it half assed. they only reinforced the bottom half the frame not the full inside width oh well will be triple walled by the time am done.
Tommorrow finish up the steering and get that all set and the column back up n in. then start on something else not sure what yet lol :D. Also ups santa came by today bunch of my stuff got here earlier then expected. I have all new door seals, rear window seals which I am hoping the big window cab ones will work in this instance since they no longer make a factory repro of the burb seals. also got my champion 3 core aluminum radiator in and ooohhh shiny!!!!!!!

Quick question guys where do I need to look to find some wider radiator lower saddles? the ones in the truck are too narrow for the new aluminum one?

Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

talked to drivetrain specialist of las vegas today about the tcase they said that it would not be a good idea to swap the t case 180 degrees due to the fact of how the shifter lock is enabled, apparently turning it over runs the risk of locking it into 4wd mode which means yucckk would have to tear it apart to fix it. so now hmmmm thinking of options !. convert the allie to 2wd and run a divorced 205 which allows me to get the output shaft speed sensor the trans is looking for or b. get adapter for a married 205 even bigger headache since will have to figure out how to rig up a reluctor setup on the output shaft. Been looking at parts schematics on the allie and does not look like I would have to take the entire tranny apart to cwap shafts and housings. Main derned thing to find is a spanner socket for the specialized nut they use on the 4x4 models. Going to oreiilys tommorrow to poke around and see if they have a tool that would work.

Have you thought about swapping to a Dana 44 out of a F@&d? I wonder what the difference would be in both cost and work involved, versus converting the trans and a divirced NP205? You can change out the outers on a F@&d 44 to the GM pieces.

Re: Got a new toy coming home next week guys :D

Hey Capn,
You are gonna love this!!!!! 1.5 hours to remove the output shaft from the allison trans and most of that was fighting the big ass snap ring holding the roller bearing in place. When you removed the allison rear cover the last planetary slides out as a unit and there it is. Once the retainer nut is removed from the output shaft she comes right out of the planetary. Found the parts to change over at wit trans for about 185$. Both bearings are in excellent shape so going to reuse them in the 2wd housing. Found a doodge divorced np205 for 75 bucks I am picking up after christmas. Looks like I may have a buyer for the 263 case but waiting to see. Tried rotating the 4wd housing on the 263 t case no go without some serious redrilling of the housing or a clocking.
Capn have you developed a power steering gearbox change over set for the 4x4 trucks yet? I just got done seriously modifying the rez kit to work with this truck. Apparently REZ is Aware of it but dont get enough calls on it to make a seperate kit as of yet. Note to people using the REZ kit lol Put some 2.5 inch harndened steel studs in the three holes you dont drill out makes getting the box in place ssoooooooo much easier. Will have some more pics up this afternoon when i get the matching numbers 283 home and the output shaft assemblies on the allison trans.

well have been busy on myriad project all with the goal of getting the engine in. Also picked up the original 283 that went with the truck going to throw a battery and see if it spins then decide what to do with it. Got the hydroboost steering box on earlier today and boted down nicely and all the linkage to steering is nearly all the way attached need to get a grease boot for one of the tie rods atm. Also rolled up under the truck and found luckily the divorce t case mount bolts in thank heaven that will come out friday for some blasting and cleaning. Also started setting the seats in place to mark where I need holes for them as well. Did get the trans off the engine so I can start removing the flexplate for replacement since the ring gear is chewed to hell. debatingt aking the engine to the stealershihp to have the bolts broke loose that or find someone that can loan me a 3/4 drive electric impact to hammer then with. Looking at my gauges think I am gonnna run the stock cluster with an interface box for the speedo and then run an additional boost and pyro guage in a center pillar mount setup. the wait to start and mil lamps thinking of using a couple of inexpensive led setups and place them in the boost pyro gauge cluster as well.

On a cruise at the moment but will be back to working on Smurfette once home. While on the cruise and drawing out designs for my water to air ic setup for this engine. Before I left I have most of the wiring sorted out on the dmax harness and labels for installing it. Found some 22 pin firewall sealed bulkheads on Amazon to pass the harness through the firewall for the d max setup. Also got my American autowire update harness in as well love their ignition key setup won't have to run extra wires to power up the dmax fuse panel it has four ignition and acc terminals on it.
Here is a link to those bulkheads I found:
