Well I think its time to start the build thread for my piece.....Plans have been changed for it let me count.......TOO MANY TIMES. From wanting it to be full on custom to stock to bagged to just static dropped. Well finally have a picture in my head and im sticking to it this time pretty much a restomod with some minor custom stock touches for it. coughHOPEFULLYcough!!!! :waah:

Start off by saying its an 87 shortbed 305tbi that use to be a school district truck in Ely,NV then turned construction pig for the boss of a company in Ely as well, And now its in my hands!!! :metal: When I first put my hands to it,was completly stock except radio cut out already..... So then I needed to bring it closer to earth. So I flipped the rear axle and put drop shackles on it and cut the front springs 2 full coils.....I have spindles but lazy i guess haha.... so now it rides like crap rear axle lays out on bump stops and front bump stops took a nice air hammer too and they are gone so I bottom out fender wells now. YEAH I RECOMMEND NOBODY TO DO THIS!!! Plans are for Porterbuilt up front and out back SOON!!!!! Oh and the tubular upper and lower arms as well. On to pictures for now ..... more progress to come...

It's not primer it's actually just flat black krylon then I used scotch brite like brilo pads that my wife uses to clean dishes and it gave a kinda satin or matte look to it. I'm still not sure on what color I want to end up painting it. I'm using all stock trim pieces to go back on and emblems as well any input from yous is much appreciated. I'm thinking a dark dark almost black metallic green.

Thanks man!!! Yeah I think if anyone ever stole the thing or attempted to they'd regret doing so haha...... I did make some progress today.... The bed is ready to come off completly unbolted and wheel wells out. Gotta make it lighter some how since I may be trying to muscle this thing off my self unless anyone wants to help a brotha out haha!! Then clean up time on the frame as it gets ready for hopefully the new Porterbuilt rear trailing arm set up. Gotta make room for stuff too, I have all these left over old parts taking up space in the garage and side of the house between the 87 and the 69 crap is everywhere!!!!!

oh cool well as far as doing it on your own i wouldn't even try too bro those beds are freaking heavy bro and when i removed mine three of us struggled since i didn't want to scratch the bed, man if you were here in town me and two of my buddys would cruise by and give you a hand some people use a cherry picker or and engine hoist to pick it up you just have to make the hoist the longest you can i couldn't do that bc i didnt want to scratch my paint you probably could since is just primer right?

luifer76 05-16-2011 10:45 AM

Re: The never-ending, always changing Breadbox build.

well you what i just forgat that all the truck dont have the tail gate smooth welded shot like mine does but by removing the tail gate might help too either way even with the cherry picker you may or may not need at least other person to help guide or so...

Thanks bro!! Tomorrow probably gonna end up cleaning all that rust off the frame maybe paint it not sure yet at how I wanna attack it haha i hate rust and all body work  Then my fuel gauge has been acting up and I've changed out gauges with others I have around the garage with no changes on how it reacts, So I'll check out the sending unit see whats up with it hopefully thats a easy fix.

Im still debating on a rear setup for the truck too...Wether I want Porterbuilt's new trailing arm setup or the 4 link setup or even a different kind not sure yet...What's everyone else think???? I will defintely do the front dropmember and arms from Porterbuilt. But right now I'm so broke if I wanted to rub 2 nickels together, I'd have to borrow 1 of em!!!

Thanks man!!! Best thing about the brackets is they were free and its one less thing I have to build or make haha. Oh I got paint for the frame going to do a black hammered finish, I've always like the look of the hammered finish so we will see when its done hopefully it looks good haha. And yes lots of pictures to come I had to buy the wife a new memory card for "HER" camera cause I'm using it all up haha.
