Thanks to Slick67 for giving me the rundowns on how to start my own build thread, Heres a few pics of what i started with. it started with 5 trucks and now i have one and it takes all my money!! All the pics and everything done has been done by myself and my dad helping every chance he gets. i started this project right after hurricane ike and its still going. im gonna start with the truck the engine i pulled came out of. i took engine, tranny, and the booster(good core) Attachment 530740 Attachment 530725
the next truck was part of the buy one take the other too...lol Attachment 530726 finally sold this one last week for $300 with a original tx title. After going through and throwing all the old internals out, valve job,all new internals .010 on bearings and .040 on cylinders, and z28 springs, this is what she looked like. few more steps with the engine build. installed new crane pushrods, and procomp 1.6 full roller rockers, and double roller timing chain and a few other parts. all hardware is grade 8 or stainless socket head bolts and billet alum. accessories.
Attachment 530741 Attachment 530742 Truck No. 3 and No. 4 or whats left of No. 4. it was a truck that got stripped and turned out to be a goner. had a rocket 350 with a 400 tranny in it that ran. gutted stripped and sold. made my money back on it. Attachment 530746 Attachment 530747 truck No. 5 and the one im building. this is what she looked like after the cab was trashed and left a roller. sorry for the small pic but i was trying for all 3.. Re: My 68 swb build.
Looks like you are making good progress.
My '67 has parts from 6 different trucks of 6 different years. My son and I put it together last summer, it was a fun project working together seeing how different year parts would work. Now this summer we are going to take it back apart and do a restoration on it. It is a driver for now. I know some people may even have trucks made up of more years. My '67 is titled as a '67 but has parts from 67,68,69,70,96 and seats from an unknow year. Keep up the progress and enjoy the time you get to work on it with your dad. Danny |

I promise only a few of the blasting before and after...
Attachment 531034Attachment 531035 Attachment 531036Attachment 531039 Attachment 531040 dont know if it can be seen from the pics but the whole roof was so bad, that i couldnt use it. it forced me to find another one. the passenger side looked like a tree fell onto it and crushed it in and someone drilled holes, pulled it out and then filled it with everyones nightmare, bondo. same with the cab corners and the rockers. i found this roof in a salvage yard on a complete 71 chevy truck. suprisingly the roof was the only good part on the truck. |

Was kinda wondering if anyone was actually following my thread. Kinda losing my motivation.
|
Re: My 68 swb build.
I'm following along, great pics. Amazing work on restoring that cab most everyone here woulda scrapped it and you now have one better than most anyone's.
Hopefully the motivation is only lost on the thread and not the truck. |

Re: My 68 swb build.
Last nite I got the engine on the frame and the tranny case mocked up. It's empty. Turns out I gotta cut the driveshaft 3.5 inches. Does anyone know if the stock tranny crossmember will work with the 700r4? It looks like it'll hit the pan but I'm not sure. I gotta say that engine is quite heavy with everything installed on it. A few neighbors and I manhandled it off the stad and onto the frame. Only broke one spark plug. Should she if she'll fire up this weekend. Kinda excited cause I've been waiting to see this engine run. It'll be the first start since teardown. Any tips before I turn her over? I know I need to prime it but anything else?

Re: My 68 swb build.
Hey 77 chris03 do you think that you could give me some advice on my engine. Its a 357 with bearigs out .10 everything is stock. I need some advice on what I can do to get it worthy of putting it in my 71. Thanks.
|
Re: My 68 swb build.
If it's a 357 that would make it .040 on the cylinders. What kind of advice are u looking for? Mine is a 350 4 bolt .040 on cylinders .010 on all bearings and new internals. Crank turned and polished. Only thing that's stock is the crank and rods.

Re: My 68 swb build.
DUDE! You have definetly taken a challenge there with your cab! I have to admit it looks a lot like the one that was on my son's 69 when we started. It took me all of about 5 minutes to decide no dice on that. We were lucky to find one on Craigslist that was about as rust free as you can find in Oklahoma. I will be watching this one. Have to hand it to your for taking on that rust!

Re: My 68 swb build.
Go with 1.6 roller rockers, stock sized pushrods, z28 springs, a nice cam nothing over a 500 cause that's all those springs will handle. Is it being built or already done and adding?
