Anyone have old pictures of monster trucks?

Hey guys, I tried this awhile back on the general discussion board, but does anyone have any vintage monster truck pics from the late 70's or eighties? Heck even if you live close to one that sits outside somewhere rotting away, it's all cool to me. I grew up in that era and still love seeing the older ones with the real metal bodies. back when cutting up a '67 fastback mustang or 1972 Chevy El Camino wasn't seen as a bad thing. Thanks to Dooley, Mudder, and a few others that showed pics before. I know about the websites out there that have endless photos, but wondering if any of us 4x4 lovers had any to share. Thanks guys, Trevor

Cool pictures! I always wondered where some of these old trucks ended up.

i wonder how many previous owners claimed the truck they want to sell to YOU was a monster truck?

I think the monster truck scene needs to go back to the vintage. I just think most of the new ones look so incredibly stupid. Just isn't anything as cool as the original Big Foot era trucks!

A pic I found not too long ago on the net. Shows Grave Digger 1 as of last year.

I am not one to post pictures of anything but Chevys here because that is what I am. I have one shot of Bigfoot 1 from here in town years ago. I also had the honor of sitting down with Bob Chandler for lunch one day, years later. I knew several of the owners back in the day when my brotherinlaw had his truck and the racing was just beginning.

When I met Bob Chandler his towing gear consisted of a 77 Suburban 4x4 with 17/40 Dick Cepeks pulling a homemade trailer with a tri-axle mobile home setup. I used to buy from his shop back in the 70's.

They did some pretty cool stuff back then to them. I think that is wghat sets these trucks apart from the new ones. Even if the newer trucks have more power, articulation, blah, blah, blah!

I knew the guy that owned and drove Maddog. The Blazer with the wing. They were just starting racing and had 180 degree turns so they made the rear brakes to were you could lock either side up (like a tractor) for sharp turns. It had a bascially stock 454 in it and a 400 turbo. One of my all time favorites Monsters. John then built the Wild Hair truck (rear engine) and then the Micro Machines truck. They sold the name to Wild Hair to a guy South of St Louis and came out with a truck name Ozark Viper. I think the Driver rolled it end over end the first time out.

Randy, I am glad you are sharing your experiences in the monster truck scene. The Breen Bros. always seemed like nice guys to meet.

LOL Red I seen that Nitemare truck lots of time at Indy. That thing would get some serious air.

Hey Randy, did you brother in law have a monster? or were you just saying when he had an older lifted truck?

Re: Anyone have old pictures of monster trucks?

He built the power wagon in the first pic. It was way too heavy for racing but was a really good car crusher.

I heard somewhere that the original Bigfoot had a Dana 20 transfercase. I had no idea they were that strong.

The first Bigfoot wasn't running 66's. I think they were probably 48's or so. Not sure about the TC.

I was 2 feet from Dan Runte the current big foot driver. I didn't figure out who he was until after he left, I was quite annoyed at myself.

Almost 10 years old. I see my favorite isn't n here. King Kong. Those guys back then weren't waiting for technology. They were the pioneers

Not long ago I came across a picture of my then grade school son standing beside the Grave Digger. If I can find it I'll take it to WalMart & have it digitized & post it!

That would be cool to see. I remember my now 40 year old son and nephew climbing up into the wheels of one of the old monster trucks I had a picture of. I don't think I still have it.

Jeff Dane recreated his "King Kong" monster a couple years ago. It is now at the monster truck hall of fame museum.

I see I never posted on this thread, either.

These are from an event I hosted at the GM Desert Proving Ground. Called "the Happening" it was an annual series of events designed to get GM executives out of their offices in Michigan and out to experience what trucks could for them. This would have been some time between 1990 and 1994.

This particular year we held what we called a "Truck Rodeo", with barrel racing, backing a hay wagon contest and an informal truck pull. I prepped two identical crew cab dually 4x4s and the guy with the sled was from Thumb Trucking in Pigeon Michigan. We also had the USA1 monster truck as a guest for some driving demonstrations.
