I purchased this truck back in June after boardmember SEETEN started a thread about an Ebay AD that peaked my interest.

I had been looking for a nice SWB 68 truck to be my "daily driver" while I'm finishing up a few other projects and this one met 90% of the criteria that I was looking for in a truck.

The first few pictures are of the truck when I first purchased it. It is an extremely solid, minimal rust, original paint truck. It came with a sweet 630 TQ/622 HP 383 Stroker motor with a Vortech Supercharger, Sid Neal TH350 and a 3.08 posi. While the motor/tranny seemed to be bullet proof, the suspension was not...... It had the original suspension that the previous owner cut and heated the coils to lower it. The ride was terrible and it felt unsafe when you would hit any bumps. So the suspension was the first thing that I tackled. It also had a fuel cell and battery mounted in the bed, This along with some super wide tubs, pretty much rendered the bed useless. So battery and tank will be removed and placed in their proper location, ;). Here's a list of updates that I have completed and some of the other stuff I plan on updating.

Front suspension: The front coils were cut and the truck was basically riding on the bumpstops. To top it off it sat about an 1" lower on the passengers side. So, I decided to go with Eibach 2" dropped springs to get a solid reference point. It definitely sits higher now than it did before but at least I have a good reference point. I will probably go with a 2 or 2 1/2" dropped spindle later on but I want to see how the springs settle first. I also added a 1 1/16th sway bar with poly bushings and lowered mounts. The ride is 1000% better!!!!! Here are a few pictures....

The rear suspension, just like the front, consisted of a lot 41 year old OEM parts, including original bushings in the trailing arms and the pan hard bar. A set of dropped springs were added, but apparently they weren't low enough, so PO heated them up with a torch ......Nice work ehhhh. Anyone want a slightly used, slightly modified set of of drop springs? It took about 4 hours to pull everything out and prep it for the new stuff. The neatly tucked up full exhaust didn't make the process any easier......

I installed a rebuilt tilt column from KevsClassics, (nice product). Apparently the PO didn't cut any wires because the backup lights and the neutral safety switch still work, :metal:. While doing the column, I put in a LOKAR tranny selector kit. That was pretty straight forward as nothing was in the way. I also put in a stereo I picked up on the board. Anyone got any cassettes I can borrow??? :D While I had the column out, I cleaned up a bunch of wires under the dash. No major damage, just a bunch of spaghetti from all the additional gauges and MSD setup.

I actually like the retro...but I saw a picture with rally wheels with no caps that I actually think looked the best on that truck. It's funny because on 99.99999999999999% of other trucks I'd go with the new school choice....your truck just begs for something different :chevy:

this picture is the one I was referring to.....with matching rally in the front though....

The wheel dust covers won't go on all the way. They are hitting the rotor dust cover and won't seat.

Sorry for being slow with the updates. I've spent the last week cleaning up some odds and ends:
1. tuning the motor - carb and timing (still needs some adjusting)
2. replaced the $29.99 duralast starter :(, with a high torque one
3. removed the B&M floor shifter since the column shifter is installed
4. Chased down some wiring gremlins....It has an adjustable rheostat to control the electric fan but it has never worked. So I pulled it apart to see what the problem was. The entire circuit was fried, :(. I think the problem may have been because the electric fan and the high flow holley fuel pump were all connected to the same hot wire coming off of the alternator with no fuses of fusible links in the circuit , So I got everything rewired (the fuel pump had about 5 splices in it....) and connected correctly. I wish people understood how dangerous doing stuff like this was and how easily you can burn your pride and joy down by being careless with wiring. OK, off of my soap box. So I got it running well enough to drive it to the local weekend car show. So me and the wife headed out. About a half a mile from the house it just dies and won't start! Luckily we were able to turn off into an empty neighborhood. After about 2 minutes of going through everything I had done to it, it dawns on me that the fuel pump is not running.....so look underneath and realize that I forgot to crimp the one end of the new wire I had run to the fuel pump, :uhmk:, easy fix and were on our way. It drove and rode quite well on the way over and was getting some curious looks when I pulled into the parking lot . I tried the bad alternator bearing story, but after about 10 minutes I had to open the hood and show em da stuff, :metal:. Everyone thought it was pretty cool. It's definitely a sleeper. I think next time I'll go over with the hubcaps on :D. Here's some picture of the wiring and some new goodies, :).
