Check out this new SAFE SAW

Amazing technology - watch the videos on the website :D Big pricetag, but that is the price for new tech  |
Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
very nice. but man what a price. :jdp:

Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
I was reading a tool comparison magazine (2007 version) and they said that the saw-stop saw was an awesome tool, it does work as advertised, but as mentioned above.....that price! :whine:

Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
Yep, it's expensive, but it's still cheaper than loosing a thumb...;)

Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
Awesome piece of technology. A single accident prevented would would pay for it in insurance claims alone.
|
Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
My boss's cousin owns a cabinet shop two doors down the street from our shop and they have one of those saws.
Insurance company basically forced him to buy it --- after his kid cut his hand in the table saw - not once but twice!! |

Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
wow, that's amazing.
I figure it's about 1K more than a delta unisaw of the same size. That technology, seems like, it could be retro fitted into others. It's my jointer that makes me nervous. |
Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
I see my next table saw. You can pay $3500.00 now or you can pay $150,000.00 later. It's worth the bucks to keep all your digits attached.
|
Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
I was going to say, how much is a finger worth? For a putter like me that is expensive, but if you use the saw for your livelyhood, or better yet you have a saw and employees, then that is just ins that you'll never get sued for digit removal! When I taught shop, I put a groove down one on my finger tips dadoing a board. Thought I lost it, but just opened'er up a bit. I'd spend some of my budget on it if I was still in the classroom or had a shop class where I am now. Seeing a kid loose a finger is not cool, I wouldn't want to have to live with that on my head!

Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
That is really neat. I think it is worth the money.
|
Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
That would have saved my dad about an inch off the end of his finger.
|
Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
What triggers the safety mechanism? Just curious how it distinguishes between flesh and wood.

Not sure why its crazy to say I putter around with woodworking, other than that's your user name? I guess it is a back east thing, not sure but I've heard the term puttering around alot, is that where/how you derived your name? |
Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
Woulda saved my dad about 1/4" of his finger too!
|
Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
We have one here at work.
Nobody lost a finger yet! |
Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
How in the world am I supposed to cut my hot dogs in two with that thing ?
|
Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
Guess you will have to use the torch! Combo cooker & cutter all in one, even toasts the bun!

Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
They have been around a while.
At first they tried to sell the technology to the "big boys" but nobody would touch it - afraid if it failed they would loose everthing in a lawsuit (probably right with the way lawsuits go nowdays). They now have a replaceable module (about $50.00) that takes care of the braking action, previously if the brake was used the saw was junk (one time use) but the blade on the saw may not survive, it gets a big chunk of aluminium shoved into it to stop the spinning. (better than loosing a digit) We are buying 30+ of them at work (very large cabinet shop). |
Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
 WoW, I watched all of the video's very impressive, I am going to
recommend one of those to my company. (We have a table saw in the Maintenance fab shop area for cutting UHMW down for our equipment) |
Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
I saw these on the news a couple months ago-here in Salt Lake, one of the school districts are getting them for their shop classes. They correctly figure that one lost finger will cost more than however many of these saws they need.

Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
Wish I could watch the video, but it would take a week to dl.:( Sounds like a cool invention tho.

Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
After seeing a kid in high school lose all his fingers on a table saw I was very nervous using one for years. I want that saw, now if they could do the same with a jointer then I would be buying a pair.

Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
I have a feeling someday all tools will be like that.. Well anything that can cut your finger off.. I am sure they can do something like that in a chop saw but without retracting the blade.. If I could I would love that saw if it were portable...

Re: Check out this new SAFE SAW
