85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Ok i have decided to do the 6.0 swap and not a 383. I have just orderd my motor. It is out of a 03 gmc yukon. Has 88xxx miles on it. I will be putting it in my 85 chevy suburban 4x4. I will be using my 700r4 i just got from monster transmissions. I will also be putting a carb on it... I know it will not give gas milage but cant be a hole lot worse then what i get now. I need help with the headers. Have not found any that will work. Any one know where to get some? will post pics when i get motor.

The headers from street&performance are the way to go. Why not leave the fuel injection. With a tune, 400hp and 20 MPG would be really nice. You could buy a standalone harness and fuel pump cheaper than a LS carbed intake and any carb that would be worth running. Just a thought. Good luck with the project and cant wait to see pics.

From what i have found it is about the same price efi or carb. With the carb i dont have to worrie about any tv cable hook up problems. The efi and carb make pretty much the same power. I have a thread going about that. With the same heads and cam they are just about exact. The carb has a dit more hp but the efi has a tad more tq. I just want to be able tune it my self. It will still use the same coil set up individual coils and will be fully tuneable. The controller comes with a 2 step rev limiter and nos retard. Mostly just easer and user frendly. But thanks for the info.

Ya they deff have plenty of room. I only have one kid so she has the hole back for her self. When i got it i was looking for a blazer and found this a hole lot cheaper and it has upgraded axles. Love burbs my dad had one when i was a kid and they are the best cross country drivers ever made. It is like driving your sofa down the street.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Bad news guys.......I looked at "my" engine and found out it is not "my" engine. They sent me a 5.3 insted. So i called them back and told them what they did. So they are going to ship me "my" real motor today. Should be at work in 3-4 days. But on a good note they put my alt on the motor they sent me so now all i have is dang alt. We can all cry together now...:m7:

I'm bummed that you are downgrading to a carb. :( Although it will be very different when the hood is up. The TV cables are just as easy to hook up on a DBC throttle body as it is on a carb.

They make same hp and tq. I will only have one or two days to swap everything from gen 1 engine to gen 3. And want the ease of tuneing my self.

Down grade? The only diff is i will get a little less mpg. But i will be getting more then i am now. It will have same power. And look bad ass.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

update.....Motor was dropped off at my work again today. Will look at it monday i hope. If it is the right engine this time i will have more pics.

Was wondering if i put l92 heads on it the only manifold they sell is for 3500-7500 rpm. I will have a 670 holly on it. Have not picked out a cam yet. I have a 1800-2000 rpm converter on it. was woundering how bad it will kill the low end if i use the big manifold compared to the 1500-6500 rpm one. But the low rpm manifold does not work with the l92 heads. I need help on this. thanks

And they managed to send the right one this time!!! But they sold the power steering pump off of it when it was waiting to be shipped. But they sent one to me in mail. The sails man guy said this is the hardest sale they have ever had.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Got carb in mail. YAY... But now i have to get it to pass the state safty inspection. First place failed me for missing 1 of 8 lugnuts and if you floor truck with e brake on it moves a little. It has a 4;10 rear end and a 3.xx first gear and a 2000 stall converter in it. Not a hole lot is going to stop it. dand sure not a 30 year old drum brake... second place failed me for power steering drip. It leaks maybe 3 dropps a month. just want to get on with motor swap and not deal with small stuff.
