Dyno'ed 768hp 1305ftlbs & ran a 10.99@122
Took my truck to the dyno last week and it dyno'ed 768hp and 1305ftlbs @ the rear wheels. The truck has a stock bottom end Duramax diesel engine in it with twin turbos. After the dyno I took the truck to the track and it ran a 10.99 @ 122mph. I need to work on the suspension because the truck pulls hard to the right on take off. Not sure how you get the video's on here but this is the link to them

Re: Dyno'ed 768hp 1305ftlbs & ran a 10.99@122
Awesome truck but the only late model bed I have ever liked is the one Mike Nutt did for his truck.
I would love to do a duramax 3/4 ton Suburban. |
Re: Dyno'ed 768hp 1305ftlbs & ran a 10.99@122
That is very cool
Do you have any engine bay pics, or any build pics? |
Re: Dyno'ed 768hp 1305ftlbs & ran a 10.99@122
Very nice my friend! Alot of work and alotttttt of money spent on this rig~~~!

Re: Dyno'ed 768hp 1305ftlbs & ran a 10.99@122
That is just sweet!!! I've always thought that the duramax should be installed in one of these pickups. Big enough engine bay to actually work in and one of the best body styles GM made.
Looks like you might be giving Orange Crush a run for its money soon!! And pretty much smoke free. Orange Crush is the only other Duramax swap I've seen. Again great work!! Thomas |

It took me 7 months and 1200hours to do the swap. That is fabing everything for the motor and trans mounts, all the frame work, the wiring, and installing a GM 14 bolt rearend with coilovers. I tryed loading pictures but it was taking way to long. I will try later.

Re: Dyno'ed 768hp 1305ftlbs & ran a 10.99@122
I guess it worked. The first one is of the bus I bought to get the engine and trans and all the wiring. The secound one is of the fire wall. I had to push it back all the way to where the dash comes down. The next one is of some of the frame work, and finally the engine bay last year with out the secound turbo. I need to get some pictures of the engine this year with the secound turbo.

Yes that does look nice under the hood, you did a very nice job
Did you use the 10.5 FF 14 bolt or the 9.5 SF 14 bolt? |

Nice Job!! What are you using the air compressor for? Its in the way if you put a second CP3 high pressure pump on;)

Re: Dyno'ed 768hp 1305ftlbs & ran a 10.99@122
Very nice again! Since it was mentioned, I'm curious now. What kind of mpg's have you seen or is this strictly a track only toy?

i have to see a video of that right there! not that i dont believe you at all. because i definately do i just wanna see them tires in SMOKE. and you get better gas mileage than my 5.3 reg cab stepside sierra does on the highway IN TOWN! absolutely incredible.

Re: Dyno'ed 768hp 1305ftlbs & ran a 10.99@122
How much do you have in this conversion? I would love to do this!!!

Re: Dyno'ed 768hp 1305ftlbs & ran a 10.99@122
I bought the bus that the engine, trans, radiator, intercooler, steering wheel and wiring harness came out of for $8000. I have about $5000 into other parts that were needed, and the rest is a lot of fab work. My time is free. All the performance parts are not added to this $ amount.

Re: Dyno'ed 768hp 1305ftlbs & ran a 10.99@122
I love this idea of building this era truck but I wanna go for reliability and durability basically meaning that my frame will fall apart before the powertrain does over 50 years or so would you say this is a stupid idea to build a d-max daily driver c/10? thats the only reason I'd go for it maybe a bit of added horsepower but I love the idea of that older truck newer powertrain underneath. P.s. have you done any highway miles to estimate your mileage there?

Re: Dyno'ed 768hp 1305ftlbs & ran a 10.99@122
Yeah I've also looked at the Suburban D-max as well as a stock looking one by PPE on this site and Im impressed with all the builds hands down there isnt a better looking truck to put these powertrains into and we certainly have the room for it my only concern after putting all that in would be 1. the ride around town (im sure air ride would fix that) 2. Did you do anything for A/C or is it a pure 2 windows down at 60? 3. You used the stock frame correct and just boxed it and made a new crossmember for the front?

2: I have Vintage Air in the truck with the factory D-Max a/c compressor, and it blows ice cold. 3: Frame is stock but I boxed the front half up to the transmission crossmember. I used the factory front crossmember but had to cut alot of it out and box it in. |
Re: Dyno'ed 768hp 1305ftlbs & ran a 10.99@122
:metal: Wow that is some really impressive fab work just a ton of fitting hours I'm sure and I like the bags inside the Springs thats a good concealed look and not just relying on the bags (in case of a blowout) and I'm glad my vintage air would work with it as well I was concerned with how much the engine and tranny went into the cab and what would fit behind the dash after the build. Im glad to see you kept it five lug as well keeping the look of the classic.
