Made2drag 86 Silverado
Recently got this 86 GMC Sierra Classic. Someone put a 350 v8 and 350 turbo in it out of a 78 or 79 c10. Great driver with plenty of power. My plans are to bag the front and do the lowest static drop in rear with air assist of some type. My goal is to build a truck like my last tan c10, but build it with hopes to have it turn out better. 18's this time instead of 20's and I want this one to keep the bed floor.
It will be a slow build, I have been taking pics and will post them. This is as far as I've gotten in the last month or 2. |

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...pskannd6o2.jpg As you can see that is a 9 inch drop with no weight. I welded a 2 inch piece of square tubing to an axle saddle and I took 1 leaf out. With 3 guys standing on back (after c-notched) it will be 11 inches of drop with the bed on. |

Re: Made2drag 86 Silverado
I plan on using 1960's VW bug air shocks in rear. They are like 9.5 inches collapsed length and extended are like 15ish. Ride height sweet spot is going to be like 12-13. 9.5 collapsed will let the axle almost hit the top of c-notch. Not too worried about bottoming out on c-notch as my pumpkin will hit bed floor first. Like I said in the first post. The bed floor is staying untouched....so no worries

I'm in for this. Good job on the door repair. Looks like it took forever pulling.

My bag brackets are being shipped now, so im hoping in a couple days I'll have a temporary bag system up front done for a cruise in this Saturday. I'll probably have the truck in the air and ready for brackets to go in.... when they make it to the door. |

Looking good! Did you find the leak?

Before bags I measured 30.25 on driver front fender and now its 26.5. Passenger was 31 and now 26.25. I didn't trim the cups at all. Seems I can trim them 1/2 an inch and I think that would be an inch of drop if I did it. The plan is to go with 3 inch drop spindles since I have the heavy duty rotors. Right now I can put 90 psi in to lift the front and enough air to lift an inch it rides pretty good. I tried 2 inches of air and it was stiffer so im thinking 1.5 inches of lift should be ideal. |

Re: Made2drag 86 Silverado
If you look at the hose on the passenger side, that was where I should have left it. since that pic, and before I put the wheels on, I pushed the hose to the other side so it can be strapped down. As you can see that would have loosened the fitting and possibly created small leak. My plan is to pull hose back toward wheel and shoot some kind of sealer around the fitting to stop the leak. The minor leak wouldn't take much to stop. I think after that, I should be able to air the truck up and it should stay up a couple months like my other trucks ive done this to.

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...psco2b7qtp.jpg Thanks to John (68Timber) for letting me use his idea and his paint! Looks like the can was $4.99 at Hobby Lobby. Sprayed the spare needle that's going to replace my broken one and i'll spray the others when I get a chance. |
Re: Made2drag 86 Silverado
Anyone know a trick to take off peeling clear coat? As in clear coat pealing off like on my passenger side fender?
