1990 daily driver build
I just purchased this truck about 3 weeks ago. My plan is to turn it into a daily driver. For the most part everything looks stock other than the wheels. My plans right now are to drop a crate motor in it since I bought it with a rod knocking. I plan on keeping the motor the stock TBI 350. Other plans include switching the wheels to 15” rally’s and doing either a 4/6 or a 3/5 drop. Coil overs not bags. Roll pan on rear and cab corners and rockers.

The first picture is the stock motor after dismantling the front. The second pic is the crate motor. Got it stabbed and starting putting it back together.

Re: 1990 daily driver build
Hopefully Saturday I will be able to start it up. I also got my cab corners and rockers delivered this week so I have plenty to do now.

Re: 1990 daily driver build
which crate motor are you running ? i just pulled (and sold a 15K mile goodwrench 290 hp) only reason i switched were the heads were a choke point for doing a cam/intake upgrade.

Well this weekend was a productive one. Got the motor all done and running Saturday night. I was having an issue with it overheating and the system would not pressure up. Found out it was the radiator cap. It purrs now.

Pulled the bed off to work on the cab corners and rockers. One of the previous owners attempts to fix it was rather bad.

Re: 1990 daily driver build
So the plan this week is to start drilling out spot welds on the rockers and get them removed.

One more pic. It’s always amazing to me how much rust gets in there.

Re: 1990 daily driver build
That's some awful looking rust. Your truck will appreciate the new metal! :metal:

I was going over the truck marking the dents and areas that needed fixed and noticed on both doors above and below the door handle was pushed in. It was very flimsy which bothered me so I took the door apart and found it was cracked.

Well I found a guy on Facebook that sells parts for these trucks and was able to get a pair of doors for 140 bucks. Overall condition was very good. Couple of little spots.

Re: 1990 daily driver build
Awesome pics! Just joined and I just bought an 88 real similar to yours. Is it easier to remove the motor by taking the front end apart or is that just your preference? I will be doing my motor within the next 6 months to a year, so I was curios. Back in the old days with my old 68, I just lifted it right out the top!

Re: 1990 daily driver build
personal preference...in my case, i pulled the trans from under neath, and the motor lifts straight up...plenty of room either way.

I got the new inner rocker support welded in and grinded down. I was fresh out of primer so I did some fitting on the rocker panel. I think I finally have it where I want it. I will pick up primer this week and post some more pics.
