aftermarket yokes/ujoints
so i had a series of unfortunate events happen the other day.
took the c10 out for a little fun drive. pedaled the truck a couple of times, then my driveshaft decided it didnt want to stay along for the ride and completely fell out. transmission yoke has a broken ear, the pinion yoke has a rounded out bolt hole and the ujoint saddles are trash. so now i need a new slip yoke for the th400 as well as a new pinion yoke. are there any better than stock yokes that dont break the bank, that will hold up to a full built 383 stroker and built th400 |
Re: aftermarket yokes/ujoints
If you want top shelf stuff go Mark Williams, if you want good stuff but less money try Moser or Strange, there are others out there, but those are my usual brands I run that are available and easy to get.

Re: aftermarket yokes/ujoints
would the Strange nodular iron trans yoke part number U1650 work fine?
if need be i can just wait and order the CM yoke which is $180. so in my head what i am thinking is i could save up for the chromoly trans and pinion yoke. and use their heavy duty spicer 1350 u joints. as well as their HD cap kit. |
Re: aftermarket yokes/ujoints
Wait and get the CM.

Re: aftermarket yokes/ujoints
I was going to chime in on this yesterday. I have been using a Mark Williams front yoke with 1350 u joints for nearly 20 years.

I've exploded a Spicer trans yoke before, it took out my trans tail shaft housing and had to repair the driveshaft (hairline crack I didn't notice until it split next trip to the track), in the long run cost me 2 breakdowns out of town at the track, plus ended up buying that $300 yoke eventually anyway. So it would have been the better deal to upgrade mine long before it broke and caused other damage, pay once cry once. |

Re: aftermarket yokes/ujoints
Right now a 489 BBC on nitrous and a built turbo 350, this setup is coming out in the spring and a new combo is going in of a all aluminum 615 BBC with 20* heads and a turbo 400.

Re: aftermarket yokes/ujoints
If the tail is roller bearing CM is your only choice.

Re: aftermarket yokes/ujoints
Won’t be a roller tail housing if stock, will be bushing.

Re: aftermarket yokes/ujoints
ah ok. makes sense then. so a regular slip yoke will suffice, or better yet an aftermarket one
