I have used big dollar sata guns but now I need to get my own and I can't afford a $600 sata lol there is a kit from tcp for $100 but idk lol trust me I know what you get when you get a cheap gun lol. Any suggestions or anybody have some for sale?

my satas sit onmy wall almost 90% of the time anymore.

i use, belive it or not, 12 dollar harbor frieght "purple" guns with the screw on plastic cap.

they spray great! and im not talkin sort of great, as in i have painted my last 2 SEMA vehicles with them great..

There are some "kits" out that have two guns in them with different tips for less than70 bucks or three gun bubble packs for like 100. The two gun kit comes with 1.4 and 1.7 tips or you canalso get it with a 1.4and a 2.0 that is what I use for primer. I just have bought a new primer gun a Northern tool store and it has the 2.3 tip in it and have not tried it as of yet. The guns in the package deals are all the same as I have discovered just repackaged the number on the gun is the same no matter the name on the package. I have had real good luck with these guns you just have to I mean HAVE to take the apart every time any thing is sprayed through them. If you do that they will last you a good long time. Jim

You might like to take a look at this youtube video on how to setup a HF purple gun. This is not me or my video but I think it would be a good practice to prep any gun this way.

I got the HF gun mainly for primer as I'm not going to pay for a high-end gun to do a single DD project. I'm still getting used to shooting with it but I'm satisfied with the results so far. (Primer) I was going to rebuild my Binks #7 for the finish coats but may shoot them with the HF gun instead. I haven't shot a car since the sixties so everything has changed a bit.

I read an article in Hotrod about 7 years ago that recommended this Sharpe II . It's a quality tool. I bought the finex also by sharpe for primer. That basis of the story was that these are good for the money $150 and $80. They said you will know when your skill surpasses the capability of the tool. So I'm probably good for life. I have got to the point that I only use the sharpe for clear and the finex for base and single stage. And a siphon gun from china frieght for primer. Can't get the pic to post ill add it from my pc

I own Custom Paint Forum and the Devilbiss Starting Line seems to be the best bang for the buck.
I have a few SATAs, but I like using Iwatas. I feel they have a slight edge over SATA as far as atomation goes. I like the handle a bit better to.
1.3 for base. 1.4 for clear.

I currently have about 12 quality spray guns (including 4 W-100s)

You can get by with an el cheapo gun, BUT, don't expect the best results, especially with metallics, pearls, crystals, candies....

I have used the HF guns and they are OK I did a lot of nice paint jobs with them. I always was stubborn and said I would never buy a "expensive" gun. I bought a Finex 3000 ($120) and I like it a lot more. It puts out a good 12-13" tall pattern compared to the 6-8" the harbor freight gun does and it seems to be a little lighter, maybee its that I don't have to hold it as long! I really like how it atomizes the paint better. I can go much faster than I could with the HF gun.

Great information. He likes to talk. That 50 minute video could have been complete in 5 minutes. Nonetheless, good info on how to improve a low cost gun. I will save everyone 50 minutes of watching the video: the answer is, take apart the entire gun, clean all threads and ports of crappy manufacturers sealant and reseal with teflon tape. BOOM! Done. That's the entire video in a single sentance. Now if I can only find a low cost compressor I'd be in business. Thanks for posting.

The lower the size, the less fluid that gets through the nozzle. AS 1.3 nozzle will not put out as much as a 1.7

I love high end guns but some cheap ones work well.
The $10 HF side mount metal cup touch up gun sprayed nice; QC matter of luck.
My considerations are:
Tip/nozzle size availability.
Conventional (my favorite) vs HVLP.
I prefer cup that fits Devilbiss freezer bag adapter for upside down spray and easy cleanup.

Sharpe Finex FX2000 sprays great and cleans up similar to a high end gun; only complaint is I don't have adapter to fit freezer bag system.

I love my Devilbiss CVi-620G conventional tip but it was pricey.

If you want to save on $, you can just buy one gun for the base and clear. Probably a 1.4 would be my preferred for one gun. Then buy a cheap old siphon fed for the primer. Most of these have the larger tips.

I think the TCP HVLP 3 spray gun set is very good and a great deal ... on Amazon for $80 free shipping.. http://www.amazon.com/HVLP-SPRAY-GUN...=pd_sbs_auto_2 I have a $700 2nd generation HVLP gun from 20 years ago.. I don't use it. this works better. IMO

I purchased the Starting Line kit a few months ago that Taz mentioned in his post. So far I’ve only used the larger tip gun to spray spi epoxy primer but it has worked well. All mistakes and been operator error or setup.
