Gas cans
 

I need another gas can and dislike those with a CARB compliant/spill resistant plastic nozzle so grabbed another five gallon steel example from Eagle Manufacturing in WV like this diesel piece HERE

Curious what are styles folks like/don't like.

The one you purchased are the best anymore. Unfortunately the "new style" gas cans are nothing but annoying. I've lost count how many times I've soaked myself or a hot engine with the "safe" type of gas cans they are producing now. You can get the aftermarket kits that turn some into the old style but getting a good fit is hard.

I've converted the 5 gallon jugs with the kits you can buy at Menards or the hardware store. The last one I bought was a 5.5gallon VP racing fuel jug, https://vpracingfuels.com/product-category/containers/
Its not bad, has the breather built onto it but only with the filler hose was more flexible.

I had a plastic one that folded in on itself last winter so I needed a new can. Looked at several (couldn't believe how expensive they have become!) and ended up with one similar to the diesel can you posted.

No idea why, but I'm unable to post an image.

Add me to the list of who hates the "safe" gas cans and those stupid nozells.
I was looking for a couple of 1 or 2 gallon ones a couple of years ago and all I could find were plastic ones with ridiculous spouts and high priced. One 3 gallon plastic one at Lowe's was $38 too! I passed.
I have a 3 gallon metal gas can with spring loaded cap like that one that I have had for over 40 years that a Dupont Chemical rep gave me. They are real big on safety. It's not wearing out and the last time I looked they are still available. Even in a fire they will not explode unless the metal can is compromised.

It's been a couple of years since I looked, but weren't the Land Rover 5 gallon "jerry cans" essentially the ones we used to have, that actually worked?

I just went out to look at my 3 gallon can and it is a Justrite can too. They are still available for those interested, and they have safety rag cans, etc. too.

I've got 6 like the one in the 1st pic...came from walmart
I've changed the nozzles to the large high flow ones, and drilled and tapped in brass fittings for a vent
The ones I use and like the most are like in the 2nd pic...came from rural king

I like the closure on that Justrite can. The similar Eagle can closure has to be held open with a constant grip. Here’s an old 2.5 gallon Eagle I have with a bale wire handle that needs a new cork seal and a newer five gallon Eagle.

I have one of these too and it does work pretty well. That brass fitting idea would help this vent when pouring. It gets tense like a foot ball when then temps are warm.

Really wish the folks at the EPA would find some other way to meet their "Did Something" check box on the annual review then finding new ways to make gas cans more expensive and less reliable.

Add me to the herd that is spilling more gas with these 'spill resistant' nozzles then I ever did with the old style nozzles. Especially when the things get a few years old and some of the many parts start wearing or warping. And as much as the new ones cost, its hard to throw one away after two or three years.

Yeah, I discontinued using my 5 gallon slow pouring jug in favor of a 3 gallon. It gets heavy after a bit. ;)
If a guy was smart, he would find a 5 gallon tank with a pump so he didn't have to hold the thing up while he fueled. ;)

I would like to find a 100% non-compliant plastic 1 gallon gas can with spout that pops out and flows freely, and can be sealed shut when the spout is put back in place and hidden.

Check out the rather long “Jerry cans, the secret weapon” thread in the Wander the West forum. After reading it I threw out all my leaky, frustrating junk cans and got a pair of real deal NATO cans. The best part was finding out about the Swiss Army spouts for them. Expensive, but some of the best money I’ve ever spent!

My wife actually molds those VP gas jugs at her job. She's made thousands of them.
It's interesting how they get around not having those stupid nozzles. By claiming it's not a gas jug. This is molded into the side of every one.

I am like mongocanfly, I have one VP racing style and about 6 of the older square ones also.
