What size tires can I run?
 

Thinking I need a little bigger and potentially wider (I've got some different rims but I don't have measurements for them at the moment) tires for my square. Here is a side profile shot:

Measurements:

Front (38"):

Current tires are LT235/85R16 which I think come out to 30.5-31" roughly. I think 33s would fit for sure, would 35s fit? Which would look better?

Finally, any good tire for someone who mostly offroads but does some towing and highway driving? Was thinking of Falken Wildpeak AT3W or Toyo Open Country A/T III.

I'm not very well versed when it comes to tires and squares so will appreciate all input!

Since I bought my 35's, they seem kinda overkill for the mild wheeling that I do and I kinda miss my 33x 12.50's. I did win a mud bog competition with my BFG At's and I may not have with 33's

Are you keeping the stock wheels? Wheel width and offset are as big of a factor in what fits as the tire size.

You're front springs look like stockers with an add-a-leaf so my guess if 1"~2" lift, 33's should fit on the stock wheels but if you use bigger wheels I'd bet they'll hit in the front.

Fyi, a stock front suspension will measure 8.5" between the bottom of the frame and the top of the axle tube, any difference in measurement is your amount of lift.

I'm not sure what will fit on your application, but I put some Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws on my 63, and my dad put a set on his 02 1500HD Silverado. We have some hunting property that can get muddy when it rains. There's a really soft spot in the road in and out of the property. 2wd in dad's truck was no problem at all with those tires.

On my 63, I do a lot of highway and around town driving more than off road. The on road performance is nice and they aren't extremely loud for being an a/t. I beat on the tires hard sometimes and haven't had any issues with them

285 75 R16 is my suggestion.

They are just over 33" tall.

Here is my Square Truck 4x4 tire History. :lol:

Front fenders and Offset of rims are the Main issue of your Question.

I had a 76 Blazer with 40" Groundhog tires.
It also had a Non Factory 454.
It had a 6" lift with a 3" body lift and the front fenders required trimming.

I had a 78 LB Truck like yours.
I put the same 6" lift that was on the Blazer on it with no body lift.
I run 36" tires on it with no Fender modification.

A 4" lift kit with most aftermarket rims you can run 33" tires.

A home stack of springs or shackle kits always varies.
This is what my 84 LB Truck has.
The 35" I have on it required Fender (Hammering) :lol:

Also depends if you have a Drop arm on your steering box.

If the right to left turn ratio is not equal because the steering link is not somewhat level,
it will cause the front tire to get closer to the frame/spring depending on the offset of the rim.

@nvrenuf These are new 1 ton springs from General Spring. I got 3" of lift vs. my old springs but I'm not sure how much sag my old springs had.

I'm thinking 33s are the best option.

It actually dawned on me after posting this thread that my other project truck (that is totally stripped down right now) had a set of American Racing rims and 33" tires. The tires are totally shot but at least worked to get an idea of what it looks like. So here it is with 33s!

I'm going to jack up a front tire to see where things are at for rubbing later tonight.

Measures 10" from top of tube to bottom of frame so must be around 2.5" of lift vs. stock. That is good to know!

Definitely going to stick to 33s. Tire is close to fender when jacking up but should be enough clearance
