Old back half gone, new back half coming together.
Anyone got pics/diagrams on a fairly simple cantilever setup? I'm looking to get > 1:1 lift, but don't want complex. It needs to be daily driver reliable, and you'll never see it once the bed is on. |
Re: Snip snip
Sorry I cant help you with any ideas, but the frame is looking nice! I cant wait to get to mine, It is next on the list after I Z the frame which I hopefully can get done thiis next week :)

Didn't have much time to work on the truck today... made some gussets and tacked them on. I used the old frame for material to make the gussets. Those holes in the gussets under the angled weld are stock holes on the frame that I couldn't get around with my template... so I decided to center them on the piece as though they were supposed to be there ;) -- keeping it "stock, like a rock." :metal:

Re: Snip snip
Do you plan to add additional support to the welded areas at the angles? like adding a plate over the welded areas?
Just asking, but, it looks sweeeeeeeeeeeet so far! Keep us updated with pics, pics, and more pics! :metal: |

These are the only 2 ideas I have for a cantilever system. I don't know which one would easier for you to build. But with the back portion of the frame not dropping back down, the one with the rotating triangle (for lack of a better term) would be easier to fit in there and make neat.
Sorry for the crude drawings but it was a quick thing... |
Re: Snip snip
what stops the axel from twisting?
|
Re: Snip snip
You have to have something else (factory trailing arms, 4-link, etc.) to locate the axle, the cantilever systems are just used to get more lift than bag itself has.

Some progress. The finish on part of it is POR Metal Mask. I wanted to get parts of it coated so I can start hanging the air tanks and such.
I decided to nix the cantilever in favor of a more simple moving the bags forward. They're a foot forward from the stock location and the same distance apart. |
Re: Snip snip
WHOA. I just noticed you smoothed the back of the cab. Got any more pics of that?
