Will this clutch work?

I have a 68 Panel truck with a big block and a New Process 435 four speed and I need a new clutch. The old clutch is a 12" with a 10 tooth 1-1/8" input shaft spline. I found a Sachs clutch kit with those same specs at Autozone:

https://www.autozone.com/drivetrain/...2hd/321938_0_0

It says it wont fit. I looked it up on the Sachs website and it doesn't even show a 12" clutch available for the year and model and calls for an 11" clutch. BUT Orielly's has the same clutch kit (even the same part number as Sachs and Autozone) and says it WILL fit.

Is there something I'm missing? Other than the 12", 10 tooth, 1-1/8" input shaft, is there anything that might be different so that it won't work?

Been awhile since played with a truck stick but think 11” is the biggest available. They just might call it a 12”.

Re: Will this clutch work?

It's definitely a 12" clutch in there now, I measured it myself. Here's the deal. Right now I have a 12", ten tooth spline, 1-1/8" input shaft. Oriellys has a "Power Torque" clutch kit listed with those exact specs for my truck. Power Torque is Oriellys house brand and I believe the clutch is made by Sachs because both Oriellys and Sachs share the same exact part number. In fact, Oriellys has 5 or 6 twelve inch clutches listed for my truck.

Auto Zone sells Sachs clutches and they have the same one (eve has the same part number) as Oriellys for over $100 less BUT it says it won't work. I would have to special order the clutch and they won't take it back if it is wrong, only defective.
So am I missing something? I think maybe Auto Zone gets it's specs from the Sachs info but Sachs is wrong because they don't even list a 12" clutch for my truck, which I know is wrong because I have one in there now and other parts stores also list a 12" clutch for my truck. It's confusing, Sachs does sell 12" clutches with the right specs, just not for my truck
Other than the 12", 10 spline, 1-1/8" input shaft specs, is there any other differences between clutches fitting?

If you have the factory 14''-168 tooth flywheel it will work. If you measure the disc it will actually come up at 11-7/8''. Have in my 68 truck the 12'' diaphragm clutch behind my 454. Had the same clutch in my 78 wrecker when I owned it without any issues at all. To my knowledge all the truck 454s had the 12'' kit from the factory

Ok, I went ahead and got the 12" "Power Torque" clutch kit for Orielly's :

https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c...utch+set&pos=4

I got it home and it sure looks like it will fit. Same size and all of the bolt holes are in the right place. My old clutch was a Borg and Beck style so the TO bearing is different. It will be at least a few months before I can install the clutch because my truck is all apart right now. Thanks for the help and I will update when I got it all together.

Hey Man, I dig your '68 Panel project. I have a '67 3-Door K/10 Suburban I need to resurrect. .
11 inch clutches in this Series of trucks were Standard until MY '72, then they went to 12''.
So the computer logic says <<modelyear 1968 requires eleven inch clutch. Fitting Error//Error...>>
In the old days, some grey haired guy behind the counter was likely to say, ''Hey we're out of 11" clutches, but I'll give you a break on a 12'', and it'll bolt right in.''
