Found my truck -2004 Sierra ... its now mine.

I just picked up this high mileage 2004 SC GMC with zero rust or dents ... In the Midwest there is no such thing as a zero rust free truck ... for the most part... Now to do the following
1) Rust proof it 2) Hood Deflector 3) Mud Flaps 4) Running Board| 5) Tonneau Cover 6) Bed Mat Any recommendation of the above? Thanks |

Nice. I had an ARE hard tonneau cover on my 02 and 05. It worked good and kept things dry, but was a pain is I need to carry tall things. I think I would go with a bed liner instead of a mat. The mats can/tend to keep moisture.

I am having a senior moment ... the different between a bed liner and mat? I assume you are referencing a spray in liner? :mm: |
Re: Found my truck -2004 Sierra ... its now mine.
Yes, spray in bed liner. When I hear mat, I think of the rubber or carpet floor covers.

Line-X Rhino or the like. Keeps the loads from gouging through to the metal. Nothing can get under them to sand through the paint and there's no space or absorbent material to hold salty water to rot the bed from the top.
I like the roll up covers because you can put tall stuff in the bed and you have access to the full length of the bed without removing them completely. |

That is a real clean truck!!! It's a bit more expensive, but I'd definitely recommend the spray in liner...much more forgiving than the plastic drop in liner. I'd go with a soft tonneau cover mainly because if you should take a notion to bring something home that's taller than the top of the box, a hard cover would need to be tied down where as the soft cover could be rolled up. The rest of your plans are all good ones...look good & protects.

Re: Found my truck -2004 Sierra ... its now mine.
Make your own Gatekeeper or buy one to secure the tailgate from thieves.
The gas strut for the tailgate hinge to keep it from slamming open is real nice for the $20 price and 10 minutes it takes to install. |

I picked up the DeeZee branded unit on Amazon for $23. They're $34 now.
Look in my build thread. There's info on the strut, Pop N Lock GM tailgate handle lock, and the gatekeeper as well. |

IIRC The latch rod clips were pretty brittle on mine but they were fairly cheap.
