Storing my primed truck?
 

I did not use epoxy under the bondo on my 1952 GMC. I think I have the dolly and bondo work done on the cab and doors. Now I think I'm ready for high build primer and block sanding. My question is after block sanding I will have to stop doing the body work. My truck is stored in my garage so it is out of the weather but I do heat the garage somedays during the winter as I do other work out there. Do I need to apply anything over the high build to prevent having moisture problems over the winter? Should I spray epoxy primer over the bondo before the high build? I'm just learning on this body work stuff. I live in central Wi. so winters are pretty cold but it sure is hot now:gmc2: Thanks for any help!

Since it is out of the weather I say you are probably safe until you can get some color on that ol' truck. Jim

That sounds good. I'm going to spare the epoxy and that the high build primer and try not to sand through it. Than got back to the mechanical work that I like better. Thanks.:gmc2:

If your worried about moisture seeping in, unless your garage floor is sealed I would buy one of the drive in bags for it. Its a giant clear bag you put the whole vehicle in then seal it up. I would do that and add a few moisture traps RV'ers use when they store them long term to keep them dry.

how long is a while. mines been sitting outside for 5 years with one whole quarter primed. it's never rusted. other than some chalking it's fine.

It would be nice to store things outside and not worry about moisture. Here in Wisconsin it is humid in the summer and snows in the winter so moisture is a problem. I think if I epoxy prime it and than do the build up primer it will all store fine. Thanks.:gmc2:

fell ya man. 105* in the shade in the summer, 100% humidity all year, salt air, and miserable rainy winters here on the 3rd coast. i cant wait to move away from here

The problem is the high build will wick moistureand we know that the epoxy won't . So would'nt that lead us to belive we would basicly have a vapor barrier forming between the epoxy and the high buid coats? And if that is so and would cause a failure of a paintjob[I'm just thinking on the keyboard here nothing to prove or discount this idea] we would just mark it up to primer that had gone "bad" for sitting in the store to long or something to that effect. Now I have several times stopped after the epoxy stage if I were to set a part or whole truck outside for any length of time, and I also have done the other way as well with the high build on top of the epoxy, but it was only short term with low moisture short time frame. Back to the original question. Would it be reasonable to spray epoxy than spray high build and than block sand. After all of that it will be time to stop with the body work on the cab. The truck will be stored in my unheated shop while I go back to work on the nutts and bolts.:gmc2: Thanks.

there will be no issue, but you will have to do a real good prep and spray with etching primmer before sealing and painting.
