Carb issues...
 

Hey guys! I need some help. So my motor is a 350 sbc out of a 69 c10. It has the quadrajet carb in it. I feel like I adjusted my air/fuel mixture screws right and my idle right but it is still running richer than Donald Trump.. Any way y'all can help me trouble shoot it?

What's your initial timing?
Any idea what your idle rpm is?

Your float is probably soaked up with gas or the primary metering rods are stuck in the up position. I take it the choke is opening up completely.
Sounds like the carb is ready for a o-haul.

No idea what my initial timing is but I idle at about 850 rpm.

Never rebuilt a carb in my life. I'm only 17 and have a bit more to learn. How hard is it to do it?

I'm wondering if I adjust my timing if that'll help with it running rich. Once in a blue moon I'll hear a backfire in the carb which I know for a fact ain't good.

That's my thoughts!
You might need more initial timing.
Try 14 initial.
That extra timing will speed up your rpm.
Motor is more efficient with more timing so idles higher.
Then you need to reduce your idle to 700 rpm.
As it sits now you're likely idling on the power circuit. That's why it's rich.
Might be some timing tweaks will cure it with no carb rebuilding required.

Can you take a little time and burn us off some pics of your motor.

For the q jet carb the idle mix screws should be between 1 and 1/4 to 1 and 1/2 turns away from fully closed correct?

1 and 1/2 turns out is a normal start point.
Then adjust to highest vacuum.
They should be equal.
Are you using a vacuum gauge?
