I don't think we've had a thread to show customized 1/64th trucks,so here we go:

the rest.
The blue with flames needs some darker red wheels; or chrome; I think.
The two white '69s I bought on The Toy Peddler. I had the guy make the #38 M&Ms for me. They both had the regular wheels; when I got them; so I swapped them out with Disney Pixar CARS wheels.
The last one; light blue/white is a Greenlight.

Those are all great! I love the '56 Flashsider w/plow. That one is a GL/Jada fusion? I want to ask that Ebay seller who does the 4wds (DCP?) to do me a custom. One one these days I'll bid on one and hopefully win. I haven't tried yet

Yeah, I've seen those, just don't want to pay $30+

I know. But,WTH,I guess to have just one done just right I'd splurge. Figure cost of two trucks, one one plus wheel/tires/parts,then time and I can see why.
I need to dig up pics of more of my customs and post. That blue w/flames & red wheels looks awesome, too!

Re: Pic Thread: Customized Hot Wheels, etc

I have found some of the new '67 shortbeds that Hotwheels has issued (Fred Meyer) and already have the rivets drilled to do a version of my real SWB.
While I was there, I discovered that Hotwheels is now doing a Australian '73 falcon XB! ...which is what Mad Max's car was.
I see someone else out on the interwebs already had my idea:

Where do ya'll find wheels to change out and do you have pics of the customizing in progress ?

SeniorVerde 12-24-2013 09:27 PM

Re: Pic Thread: Customized Hot Wheels, etc

I just take the wheels out of other cars. Each car's only about a buck and I've found that the goofy fictitious cars (hot rod toilet, animal cars) have the best motors and pipes or spoilers. I'll buy one of 'em just for a scoop or a blower engine.

Each axle is held in with a kind of tension prong thing, and you just pry it out and put it in the frame you're building.

I start out drilling the rivets. Begin with a small drill bit and work up (it's a metal rivet surrounded by plastic in most cases, and can get ugly quick.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/fb...w155-h207-p-no
From here all the interior, glass and body pull apart and you can paint the interior and so on while you do the next step:

Then I dump the body in a jar of lacquer thinner and let is sit over night.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/xi...w157-h207-p-no
Hit that with a wire wheel or brush, then knock yerself out with paint and customizing.

The wheels get robbed from donor vehicles. I've also bought other Custom 69s with Real Riders and swapped the chassis (when I can get one of those cheap). I saw on the Red line club site that they sold a collection of upgrade wheels, then never found it again

some very cool trucks here! not to hijack, but special-K, any chance of a look at that amt '67 fleetside sport truck (wrecker) underneath those hot wheels?
that '69 fleetside beside it looks interesting too. never seen a box that looked like that

very nice special! a couple of rarer ones. just did a search, found 2 MPC '69's, $100 & up, & one '67 that got me excited for 3 seconds
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-TOY-...item1e8512aa19
might be a problem fitting that chevy grille on that body (although that f body would make an interesting model)
have to say, wouldn't mind either one on my workbench:metal:

I was unmotivated and bored on Sunday, which usually gets me doing something piddly rather than any of those things on "the list". I had a group of Hot Wheels slated for body swaps or paint jobs,so out came the drill, stripper, and paint. Nothing too special, but customs all the same.
I wish I could knock out all this paint work on real trucks all in one day. First,is the Archie's '70 Blazer. I kept looking at these at the store but passed them up because I don't care for the tv show tampo thing and the way the grilles are it would be hard to do nice color change. It hit me if I masked the upper off I could paint the lower with rallye wheel paint and have a decent looking Blazer:

Looking back I think I should have msked off the rear end and saved that graphic and still had tail lights details...oh well.
Next,I finally put a nice set of wheels & tires on the '14 HW Workshop Custom '69. Then I took a '67 and tried some yellow paint I had, because it's a go fast color. I'd like to put some convincing drag wheels and tires, like a couple '62s I did,and try to figure out how to make mini decals:

This is my first GMC Panel. I t was a Hershey's version. I didn't realize the tires had blue streaks and that played into what color paint i chose. I was thinking an original looking color and I had this green,so gave it a shot. I was thinking about white side panels to go farther with the stock-ish look, but decided to leave solid...for now. While I'm happy HW made a GMC for once,I don't expect to buy these much if any more because they made them too big to sit with the others.

The first Custom '69 here was left over pieces from one I made from two. the tires had the yellow accent,so I tried painting black. I actually kinda like it. The second one was a "Haulin' Asphalt" I painted a color I like to make the one I wish I had real!

Re: Pic Thread: Customized Hot Wheels, etc

Thanks for the compliment,John. anyone can do as well. You should try it. Lots of bang per buck! I really like doing the white top two tone, but all of these were just quickies, plus the colors were more on the custom side than factory-like. You should try doing a beater Nylint and turn it into something special.

special-K 06-30-2014 06:19 AM

Re: Pic Thread: Customized Hot Wheels, etc

The yellow on the '67 didn't do it for me. It needed more detail. It would have been cool with decals to make it look more like a drag truck. Anyway,I stripped it bare again and gave it a 50th Anniversary paint scheme. Hey,I know,it's not a '68,but could be one with side markers eliminated...right? My camera is in my work truck which is in the shop,so just have to close your eyes and picture it for now

That looks pretty good. I only ever found 2 of those '67s or else I'd be game to repaint one. They need to put the casting to use and bring out some more variations. I think it looks so much better than the '69 stepside.

I hear you. I've been surprised so many '69 Stepsides have come out since the '67 Fleetside was introduced with no follow-up. I want to do others but only have one other to keep original. It's the same with the '83. It hit me to try a factory looking 2-tine on one of those but I only have one. 67s & 83s are on my list for swap meets and flea markets this summer. I can't wait to see one with Real Riders and cool wheels

With the '83, I've gotten to the point where I pick up all of them that I see. I was just buying 2, 1 to open and 1 to keep in the blister. Since the release of the yellow one and the Road Trippin', I buy all of them I can. So far that's only been 3 Road Trippin' and 5 yellow.

How do you remove the graphics without messing up the paint ?

special-K 01-29-2015 01:05 AM

Re: Pic Thread: Customized Hot Wheels, etc

All that I've done I strip bare, prime, and paint. I had a plastic cap from a laundry detergent jug I filled and could plunk the whole body in stripper. I wish it was that easy with real trucks
