Overhead console for stereo and speakers
Is anyone using one of these headliner type consoles for the stereo system? I really hate to cut up the dash and putting the head init in the glove box is a pain to reach while driving.

Speakers in the headliner like that would probably rattle.Have you looked in to a under dash din most street rods use them.

Re: Overhead console for stereo and speakers
i built one of these for a 78 chevy van a couple of decades ago.. if you install it right, you can loose the rattle.. mine sounded good.. if you're not get enough thump to kill small dogs.. better then a stock set up but the depth allowed for the speaker is going to be just over a stock speakers.. i guess you could shim it out for deeper speakers, but 300 db located just over your head might draw blood..
i would use one again before i would butcher my dash.. back then it was a cool van thing.. |
Re: Overhead console for stereo and speakers
Custom Autosound makes a good hidden unit that you can mount under your seat. Or you can build your own. I built my overhead console out of 1"x1"s and 1/8th" luan plywoodand covered it with headliner material from Joanne Fabrics (cheap!)
