Difference between Hydroboost units?
It there any difference between most hydro boost units available in a junk yard? I mean, if I can adapt it to the firewall, and use the correct M/C, I can use anything I'd like, correct?
What is the deal with some of the hydroboost units from SUVs having a larger accumulator cylinder? What is the purpose of it? It is work considering (or avoiding?) Thanks |

there are differences...i cant list and dont know all of them....just get a complete unit from whatever you choose...i know pushrods seem to be a issue ,so its better to get it complete

the rod between the master and the boost is the one...
what are you wanting to put it on? ive got one on my c30 and love it ive also put one on my IH build and it belongs to a c20-30 series truck from the 80s...I got this one mainly based on the IH being a 3/4ton I know some guys use them from astro vans on the AD trucks |

It is going on a 1971 C10 2wd. The truck has manual brakes now. I was going to have an expense to go to power either way, so I figured I'd just go strait to hydro

Ive used both, 1 ton hydro and astro van. Both work great. Just make sure you get the parts all from one donor. ie van or 1ton.

I have an Astro unit installed on my truck. I did notice that the accumulator is twice as long on a newer Suburban in the shop.
My guess is that it allows more power applications of the brakes without hydraulic pressure in an emergency. |

Bringing this back up. I have a 2005 hydro-boost setup on my Blazer. I do have upgraded brakes on all 4 corners. My understanding is MC bore size affects pedal firmness and pedal travel inversely proportional.
The biggest aftermarket MC I can find is 1.125 (1 1/8th) compared to the 1.45 (1/ 716th) |

Non-power assisted brakes will have a smaller bore than power assisted brakes to give more hydraulic advantage at the expense of slightly longer travel. Like 1" vs a 1 1/8" or 1 1/4"
A hydro-boosted setup you could probably get away with a larger bore just because of how much assist the hydroboost gives. I am using my OE 1972 3/4 ton MC on my hydroboost. |
