700R4 First Drive and Fill Advice Needed

I am at the point of needing to fill and (I suppose) break in my 700R4. It is a newly rebuilt unit by Jasper, zero miles currently and it is empty of fluid. Being this is a non-stock to this truck option;
A. how much fluid does this trans ideally take?
B. how should I go about adding fluid? Obviously through the dipstick, but do I add X amount of quarts, run it, then add more?

Keeping in mind the engine is broken in, but I have not run it yet with the Holley Sniper & Dual Sync.

Whats yalls experience and or insight?

I would contact Jasper for best practices.

1/ Make absolutely sure you have the throttle valve cable correctly installed and adjusted....contact Jasper for instructions.

2/ Never drive a 700R4 with a disconnected or incorrectly adjusted TV cable.

3/ Raise rear wheels off the ground and place car stands under axle.

4/ Install 4 quarts of correct ATF into the trans and start engine.

5/ Ensure no oil leaks from any piping or trans.

6/ Run engine at idle, add 3 more quarts to trans and check oil level on dipstick. Add oil until level is at top cold marker.

7/ Place transmission in Reverse and idle the vehicle. Apply brake and shift to D. Accelerate slowly and check for change pattern is correct. Apply brakes and place trans in P.

8/ Check atf oil level is correct. Check for oil leaks.

9/ Place vehicle on ground and gently drive vehicle around the block checking for correct shift points etc.

10/ Check for any oil leaks.

11/ Double check the TV adjustment is correct.

Auxillary trans oil cooler is advisable.

To add one more thing to Aussie's post, if the torque convertor going into the transmission is dry or new, put a quart of transmission fluid in it as well. Don't start the car with a dry convertor.

Yep, good idea on adding a quart to the convertor....a little wipe of trans oil around the pump snout is always a good idea.

Most important is Never drive a 700R4 without the TV cable correctly adjusted....these rely on the TV cable to set correct line pressure...without it, the trans will DIE....

Pressure test through all the gears! I'm surprised no one has mentioned it. IIRC, there is a 1/4" pipe plug on the driver's side of the trans to connect a gauge. The pressure is going to be in the range of 110-120 psi. Bowtie Overdrives sold me a trans OTC and didn't offer a guarantee until I called them with my test results. I've watched some videos online about trans builders (Brandon in SC, for one) who won't sell OTC trans unless they install them because of improper testing or parts installs not done by himself.

Bowtie overdrive offers a TV kit for the Sniper. It has the proper geometry carb linkage. Cable mounting plate that mounts between the sniper and manifold, cable and special spring. A bit expensive but worth it considering the alternative. Like what was said already if it's not set up right it will ruin the trans. And it only needs a couple of miles. It's not hard just need the right parts.

Please tell us that you also replaced the convertor with the new Jasper transmission?

If you did not replace the convertor, the trans will fail....
