Project ''Second Time Around''

First off I would like to introduce myself. I've been building custom trucks for twenty years for my own entertainment. This 93 Silverado was originally my old work truck, I drove it for four years before retiring it. Before retiring it, I used it for my project truck. Being an electrician by trade I am allowed to pick my own work truck and this was perfect with being a 2wd, 4.3. I could still haul stuff, get good gas mileage, and when it was all paid for, I would have an awesome project truck.
So far on this truck I've bagged the front, added drop spindles and a rear flip kit with helper bags. And the paint that the kids love (that was done in my garage).
Unfortunately, it was put on the back burner.

Here is a rendering that I did a few years ago;

I hate to see it rot on my side yard. So I have decided to take it to the next level.

I'm waiting to see the rebuild. I think it looks good as is except for the cat eye grill.

Sharp looking ride there, I can't imagine what the next level would be but I'm along for the ride !!! :metal:

Pardon my french, but the artistic rendering sure looks like it has a '97 F-150 grille/lights. Don't get me wrong, the effect is smooth. I just wanted to know if I saw what I think I saw.

Didn't want to see another truck that says, "Like a rock....with a Ford block"...that I saw on the tailgate of an 88-98...several years ago.

Chev, I think that's supposed to be a first-gen escalade conversion.

I'm with Rob -- I can't imagine what the next level is gonna be! Are you planning to lay frame?

yeah, I think you're right. My youngest daughter wanted a Tahoe but had to settle for an Expedition....and she had just been here. Nightmares.....

Well said! There will be NO ford part used in the making of this build!
I can't believe you said the F word. I was originally going to recess 99-2000 lights and cut out the cat eye grill and fiberglass to fit.

I would've done the conversion but I'd already painted the front end.
I don't now about laying frame but it's going to be as low as possible. I'm way to old for that stuff. Or am I?

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

This weekend I tried to move it in my garage. It would turn over, but would not start. My guess is fuel pump. So next week end I'll have to drag it out. I'm going to have to take the bed off anyway.

The plan is to disassemble the front end. Recup the front bags, Make new inner fenders. Rear will be notched, linked, wheel tubs.

What happens on Saturday?

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

I have to pull it out of my side yard. The fuel pumps died! It's in 6'' of snow on gravel. With the roll pan there nothing to pull from. So I going to need to take the roll pan off, and then I can tug it out.

Just curious, But.... How long has this nice rig been sitting ?

Even though I parked my conversion van a couple years ago when gas shot up over four bux a gal, I just don't think I could let my truck sit around. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ilies/nono.gif

My 71 sat in the previous owner's back yard for two years. It's not going to damage a truck to sit. Just make sure to change fluids and your good to go. People use there RV's once a year all the time:smoke:

The truck's been sitting for about 6 months and I start it up at least every three. I only drive it in the summer, but this summer I spent driving my Suburban around and didn't have money to register the 93.

Did you do any mods to the interior? A pics of it? That's a great looking truck.

I don't have any pics uploaded. I was hoping to get it in the garage today, but I parked my mustang in front of it and that wouldn't start. I've never had a problem with it starting it until now.:thud: I haven't registered that for ten years. I know... I don't want to here it... I'll take some pics of the interior tomorrow.

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

Today was a good day/bad day. I finally pulled the truck in the garage--after a tune-up to the mustang and then a cap and rotor to my Burb.

After doing that, I had to figure out how to tug it out of the backyard. I totally forgot about the hitch on the truck. When I bought the truck it had one on it, the good part was it was in two pieces. I simply flipped it over and bolted it in. I never got around to cutting the hole in the rollpan, so I did that too. I used the front tow hooks on my 97 Z71 to tug it out. I had to put it in 4 low because of the mud. My brother and I pushed it up the driveway while my wife steered. Thanks Jeff.:metal:

Thanks for the inside pics. It's clean. I'm trying to come up with a plan for redoing mine. I want to keep it simple and just spice it up a little. Glad you finally got into the garage.

You don't see those seats very often -- they're factory, aren't they?

k5hart 01-03-2010 10:26 PM

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

I was curious about those seats too? Are they factory?

19723DR 01-04-2010 12:08 AM

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

The seat to my knowledge is not factory, but it might have been a dealer option. I know back in the 90's there were companies selling seats like this with the matching upholstery. The PO of this truck must have been a big guy, the drivers seat is worn on the outer edge. It was that way when I bought it, three years old.
