3rd Door Rocker

Did these ever become available? I looked through GMC Paul''s site but couldn't find them.

benscool1 02-27-2005 01:55 AM

I know they were doing test fits and stuff with them and had a few made but I haven't heard anything since.

4x4Poet 02-27-2005 03:47 AM

I was staring at mine today. I've wondered if most of a 3rd rocker could be made by cutting a cab rocker in half and work from both end to the middle. Even if the curved up portions don't work, most of the rust is usually down low, so, if the cross-section is the same shape, I'd just cut out the rusted section and weld in a patch rocker made by cutting the needed portion out of a cab rocker. Again, it all depends on whether the cab rocker and 3rd door rocker have the same cross section shape, height, width, etc. Obviously I have yet to look into to it closely.

It makes sense that this would work. I am not much of a sheetmetal fabricator and this is going to be my first attempt at installing some patch panels. So, I was hoping to find direct replacements for any of the panels that I need. I pretty much need everything 'down low' on my truck. I appreciate any advice.

I checked their website and couldn't find them, so I dropped them a line.

Thanks,

Let us know on this thread what they say. I peruse the burb forum regularly. TIA :bowtie:

I am also checking with a vendor, I`ll let you know what I find.

Scott Johnson 02-28-2005 12:24 PM

GMC Pauls says they hope to have the rocker sometime this summer.

olblue60@aol.com 02-28-2005 01:20 PM

I believe that Wes at "Classic Heartbeat", had originally developed the now available suburban/panel rear panels that are now avail. everywhere, because of the need on a panel truck that he is working on. As I remember, he is now developing the third rocker for suburbans which has already been test fit and are, or nearing final development. So far, folks have been shortining the front ones like "Poet" is attempting. I havn't tried it but I heard it will work.

'72 Chevy Suburban 02-28-2005 01:55 PM

Wes said that they are now available for $39.95
I'll try to get a part number for it.

Scott Johnson 02-28-2005 02:38 PM

Just talked to Wes @ Classic Heartbeart, super nice guy. I ordered the rocker for $39.95 plus shipping and should have it in by the end of the week. Thanks to everyones help for locating this part.

And after GMCPaul mentioned earlier in the day that it would be Summer before they had them, I received this message:

Hi John,

I just called our supplier to check on them, and they
said they had them come in last week. I guess it was
checked it and put into production. I won't have the
price until tomorrow, and will up date the website
then. Sorry for the confusion, I was surprised myself
when I called.

The timing couldn't be better! Thanks for doin' the footwork!!! :)

GMCPaul 02-28-2005 09:46 PM

:but: I guess Les fell out of the loop on this one :drama: , I bought a Suburban NOS 3rd door rocker last winter for a couple hundred$$ and sent it off to be reproduced, we test fit them last fall and gave the Ok to begin manufacturing the reproduction after checking them. We now have them in stock in Indiana and you'll find them here in our online catalog here.

GMCPaul,

That is a great looking piece. Thanks for making this part a reality for us. It is sorely needed.

GMCPaul 02-28-2005 10:03 PM

LOL my Sub's are very happy here also :) as they were in need. Now if I could just find a perfect rear wheel arch to rear of drivers door section in mint condition or NOS so we can get it reproduced.

Swing and a miss on my info. Thanks Paul for the new part. I need one as well and since I knew they were on the way, I have been waiting anxiously for their arrival,as my fabricating skills are very limited.A much needed part.
